Nanny's Vintage Apron Prototype

Now that we've got those skinny little ties out of the way...

...let's get on to the apron proper...

...we need to place the pockets while the apron is still flat...i.e., before the gathers and pleats...

...iron under about 1/4 inch around the pocket and go ahead and topstitch across the top of the pocket...

...then just pin in place and top stitch around the remaining three sides...

...next serge or ziz-zag around the apron front and iron under about 1/4 inch and just do a top-stich hem - of course on the actual vintage apron I'll be adding piping to the hem...

...then mark your little darts...

...and sew those up - and go ahead and gather the top of the apron on both sides until it matches your waistband width...

...pin your waistband on and seam...

...iron under 1/4 inch at each end of the waistband - turn back right side out and press...

...pin your ties in place and top-stitch around the waistband...

...give it a final pressing...

...and you're done - now on to the vintage one...

I think I had the same iron! (I had to get a new one because it bit the dust. I miss it. They don't make 'em like they used to.)
Anyway, I'm rambling. It looks great. Can't wait to see it done with the vintage fabric!
