...Hurricane Sandy and the Halloween Snow...

...this is what we woke up to when we got the automated call from Scout's school informing us that there would be no school...
...and a view from the front...we've probably got about 4 inches of snow here...
...but it's windy and the snow is still falling fast and heavy and wet...covering up all our Halloween decorations...
...a little bit later in the morning...snow still piling up...we've got about 6 inches now...
...and now the power is out...so we lit the gas logs and made a cozy fire downstairs...
...Scout came out and shoveled the walkway...sweet boy...
...and sweeter still...he shoveled the neighbor's walkway as well...
...and then he built a snowman...
...with a Halloween pumpkin head...of course...

...I really didn't think I'd be asking this question...yet...from W.V. anyway...but...have you had your first snow yet?...

~Hoping you're all warm and dry and that Sandy has gone...Oh...and Happy Halloween!

...well...Hello Dolly...

...and the very last thing that I did on a very full of fun day...was to attend the light opera performance of "Hello Dolly"...
...it's been years since I've seen it...and Scout was so tired of me singing the title tune every time it was mentioned that I'm sure he's glad it's over...I would say...HA!...except for the fact that he's entirely right...I have no business singing anything loudly enough for anyone to hear me...

...what's the last live production you've seen?...

...Corn Maze...

...right after my first ever Alzheimer's Walk...
...I went with our Youth Group to my first ever CORN MAZE...
...there was a tractor ride...
...but we all opted to walk to the field in the rain...
...where we received a cute welcome...
...they had somehow managed to keep a fire going...
...so the kids milled around warming up while the tickets were purchased...
...then we read the rules...
...and the scarecrows pointed the way...
...and we entered the maze...
...there were lots of decisions...right off the bat...
...and the corn was really tall...so there was no chance you'd see anything over it...
...but we all made it safely back out...
...and everyone had a warm(-ish) snack...
...and some of these big kids wanted to crawl through the corn crib...designed for much smaller persons...
...so it was off with the shoes...
...and after a really long time they finally emerged...it takes a while to maneuver a nearly 6 foot body through spaces designed for four foot ones...

...this was a lot of fun...and the day isn't over yet...I left the youth to enjoy the 'Haunted Corn Maze'...because I had another engagement...

...have you ever been through a Corn Maze?...did you like it?...did you get lost?...

...Walk to end Alzheimer's...

...I participated in my first ever "Walk to End Alzheimer's" ...and I arrived with the first rains of Hurricane Sandy...
...there were already lots of people there and the rain didn't seem to be dampening anyone's spirits any...
...our "Pray in Purple" table with Granddaddy's purple flower on the table...
...it wasn't long before people started to gather at the Start Line...
...pretty soon there was a huge crowd...
...then there was quite the bottleneck at the gate...
...the sea of people behind us...
...and we're finally out the gate...
...and headed up the street...the police and National Guard had all the streets blocked for our 2 mile walk...and it only drizzled rain on us the entire time...
...and when we completed our loop...there was a band welcoming us back...and lots of signs and cheers!...

...this was definitely a lot of fun...and I'll definitely be doing it again next year! ~Wishing you a wonderful weekend...

...Green Bathroom Update...

...this is the tile we originally chose for the 'green' bathroom...again it was in stock at the local tile store and they only had a little bit...so again...we got a great price...it's natural quartz...

...we've been laying them out on the kitchen floor to try and decide on a pattern...and since we've decided to go a different route with the 'green' bathroom...it's going to be pretty much all neutrals...so...we're going to repurpose these tiles for the half bath downstairs...

...and...I've got a lot of work to get done on the little downstairs bathroom before I can lay the tile...so I'd better go get busy...I'm thinking pale green on the walls...and a little green toile skirt for the little sink...a new toilet...of course...and a new light...so yes...there's a lot to get done...

Spaghetti Feed...

...and of course no one calls it a 'Spaghetti Feed' here...that's leftover from my North Dakota days...
...Our Senior High Youth raised over $1800 for their Mission Trip next summer by serving spaghetti yesterday after Church...they are such a good group of young people and worked so hard...I'll post more pictures of all the fun soon...

...I finally got around to posting some more pictures...and none of them are mine...thanks Peta!
..the kids have been selling tickets for over a month...so we had a good idea of how many people would be coming...but they still sold quite a few more at the door...
...there was a lot of prep work...
...hundreds of bowls of salad had to be created...
...the cheerful serving line...
...tables loaded with food...
...and lots of clean up too!...

...many thanks to all who participated!...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week...
