Blowing Snow!...

...much like learning to ride the lawnmower...

...is learning to run the snowblower...in that you sort of need to meet a height/weight requirement in order to be able to use them safely...well...Scout has met that requirement - being nearly as tall as me now...

...and up here the latter skill may be the more important one...

...after maneuvering the snowblower over all the sidewalks to and from the Church...Scout said he preferred the 'regular' shovel to the smelly old snowblower (this Mama is lovin' her 'green' child)...I would have to agree with him...but some of those packed 3-4 foot drifts we get on the front sidewalks would be near impossible to shovel...

...what about you...do you use a snowblower...or go green?...

BTW - it was MINUS 5 (-20 C) degrees here this morning...

  1. Hooray for Scout! We've been living in houses very ill suited for snowblowing, since the driveways are never long enough to justify owning a snowblower. My hubby loves shoveling snow, so that helps. Last year I strapped baby Kidoodle for some shoveling, but he squirmed so much I could barely shovel and screamed so hard he threw up in the snow. :( I'll leave that job to Skedaddle from now on, though I doubt we'll be seeing much snow in NC!

We use old-fashioned shovels. However in the summer we use a smelly lawnmower but that may change next year - we're considering a push mower.
    Enjoy the snow!

  3. Snowblower. Our driveway (for two houses) has no place to put the snow. After a certain point it needs to be moved the entire length of the driveway where it can be piled. I agree we all need to conserve resources. We're doing it by living in a dense urban setting.

  5. No snow blower here for green reasons and also because it's so windy here that it's counterproductive.

  8. the weight requirement . . . so he doesn't blow away in the nasty wind. ;)

we use a 4-wheeler with plow attachment . . . we've got quite a bit of driveway, and some road that we have to keep cleared. i use a shovel by the front door. :)

and, from yesterday, our town puts up christmas lights. i love it. :) some of the same ones . . . the candle and the pointsetta, we have trees, too. i'm loving this christmas season.

p.s. feel free to copy the branch idea . . . i copied another lovely blogger. :)

  9. One of my favorite parts about living in an apartment is not having to shovel or snow blow! My parents have a lot of property in Northern MN though, and they shovel, I think my mom is scared of blowers :)

  10. Wow that's cold!! It has been in the 60's here and all the Floridians bundle for it. Funny actually. My son was in the pool on Monday!! Not necessarily a good thing. Hope you all keep warm!!

  11. We are shovelers but I don't think we get as much snow as you do. We only have our city driveway, steps and bit of sidewalk to clear so it really doesn't take us very long to get things cleared.

  12. Brrr...... tis' cold where you are!

We move snow the old fashioned way - with shovels and a bend in our backs. The only bad part is that our driveway is rough, rocky and over 400ft long :(

  13. Minus 5?! Yikes! Go Scout! We use the good old shovel around here. Sometimes a neighbor will snowblow for us if it gets too bad-sweet neighbors. We find certain types of snow usually moves faster with the shovel. Also we only have a driveway and sometimes with three kids working we can get it done quickly. Peace, Angela

I'm kind of odd, I guess, but I actually enjoy shoveling snow!

  15. Snow Teresa! Well, our drive is so long and big we have to plow, snowblowers won't help us:-) And if we shoveled it we would be snowbound until the Spring thaw...LOL!
