Camping with the Boy Scouts...

..yep...it's that time of year again...

...the Boy Scouts will be camping at Wilderness in a very few weeks...and we have a few new Boy Scouts who've never been camping and our Scoutmaster wanted them to have a trial run before an entire week at Wilderness...

...so we headed out Friday evening to a spot by the lake where a nice lady has let the Boy Scouts camp for years...

...everyone worked together to get all the tents set up...

...after a little bit of orientation...

...the scouts headed down to the lake to do a little bit of exploring...do you see the trees under the water out there...that's the point where they camped last year...all under water now...they are excited about taking the canoes out to where they camped last year...

...the older scouts played some frisbee...

...while the new scouts learned how to build a fire...

...the Scoutmaster requires that they use only tinder and kindling from the campsite...and that they start the fire with only one match...

...it took a few tries...but finally there was smoke...and you know where there's smoke...

...there's fire...and Dandies...and smores...

...time to get tucked into tents and quiet down....because we're going on another 10 mile hike...

  1. So what happens if they don't start the fire with one match?

  3. I am so jealous! Heat index was 108 degrees today. I would love nothing more than to be able to sit outside with a fire in the evenings!

  5. That is a lot of water! I don't camp because of skeeters. But I might break down and camp by the beach one day.
