...5.10...New House Update...now and then...

...well...I slowed down the cabinet reinstall by a couple of days...by breaking the last tile in the row...

...the Man had cut away the necessary three and a half inches using a skill saw and a masonry blade...but he couldn't go right up against the wall with it...so I said I could cut it with a variety of tools...dremel with a diamond bit and my grout remover and the cutoff saw...

...but in the end I cracked the tile...and it's in the corner and under the overhang of the cabinet...so we (I) debated just leaving it...but of course we didn't do that...haha...
...I marked a new tile (remmeber, luckily, we found several spare tiles up in the attic)...
...cleaned up the Ditra underlayment...
...cut the tile to fit...
...and finished trimming the underlayment...
...set the tile...and waited a whole day...
...meanwhile...I prepped the wall behind the cabinet...
...and painted it ...as it will now be 'visible' inside the moved out cabinet base...
...and then I grouted the replacement tile...like it never even happened...right?...
...the Man framed in the offset to bring the cabinet out 3 1/2 inches...
...and now a little garden update...our Japanese Hibiscus has come back...
...I finished weeding the strip along the driveway...and you can see that all of those fence panels are stained now...it's just been too rainy to work on that project...and...the lavender is about to bloom...
...the Gardenias have just started to bloom...and their aroma mixes with the Star Jasmine right outside the back door...and it smells heavenly...
...we have green beans...YAY!...we'll be harvesting those soon...
...and we grew WAY TOO MANY tomatoes...
...we'll keep about six or so...and I'll take the rest up to Mom's...they're Tigerella...a pretty striped heirloom tomato...
...and finally this week...we prepared for the Cicada invasion...by trying to protect our new little cherry trees...we're only using barrier methods...so we've got slippery tape on the little trunks and a net over the leaves and branches...hopefully they'll be safe...

...these photos from the past are almost exactly a year ago...from a week we spent at the house...mostly patching and planting...
...we planted a bunch of pachysandra under this big oak tree...
...but sadly...they were quickly eaten by the herd of deer which lives in the woods here...
...that was last year's amarylis...which you've just seen blooming this year...
...and this is the flower bed newly planted with plains coreopsis and crocosmia...
...a cherry on the newly planted cherry tree...
...planting the hibiscus...which is just now emerging for this year...
...and then inside...just a bunch of random wall patching...
...patching the area beside the newly tiled fireplace...
...and there were just a bunch of little cracks...especially around the doors...
...we hung this gigantic clock in the wall space overlooking the big room...
...really happy with it...but a little bit worried about battery changes...haha...
...I made another tent to sand beside the fireplace...
...and then feathered in the paint again by thinning it out a little bit...
...back outside...we hung up some cute yard art...some geckos...
...and some butterflies...
...and we trimmed the big oak tree as the branches were almost touching the house...

~Have a lovely day!

  1. My goodness that was a busy post!! (I think the cracked tile would have been fine - but I know you couldn't just let it go.) Love, K
