...11.29...Dinner and a Movie...

...you'll NEVER guess what was for dinner...haha...of course you will...it was a repeat of Thursday's Thanksgiving dinner...and it was delicious...

...and for the 'movie'...we watched The Repair Shop...we'd not watched it in years...I think the last time was with Our Airman back in 2020...of course it made it to a post...haha

...it showed up in our Roku queue for some reason...no idea what algorithm they use...but it reminded us of the show and it was a fun, heartwarming, kind of mindless watch...

...what have you been watching lately?...

...11.28...Friday Update...

...it got below freezing last night for the first time this year...so I covered up the one pepper plant that still has a bunch of peppers on it...everything else is in the 'winter garden'...so it's pretty safe at these temperatures...
...but sadly this morning...he doesn't look like he's going to recover...
...so I plucked all of the peppers...even the tiny ones...
...it's the Corno del Toro pepper, also known as "Bull's Horn" pepper, a sweet Italian heirloom pepper that the Man planted back in May or June...we've had several peppers from it already...
...and then I picked a bunch of lettuce...which I do just about every single day...I try and count the leaves as I pick them as about 30 leaves makes two nice sized salads...
...so then it was time to hammer all of the last edging into place...
...and I managed to find three small cutoffs from the other rolls of edging to finish this short section by the gate...if you look closely you can see that it's three different pieces but from a distance it doesn't look too bad...
...the long piece just barely turned the corner which made for a nicer transition...
...meanwhile...the Man worked on installing the new security floodlights...
...and I got out the leftover bits from the edging that we used to have along the driveway...
...to make little separators between the different 'sections' of edging...here between the pepples along the driveway and the mulch around the Okinawan Hibiscus...
...between the garden section and the flower section in the corner...this section is used for flowers and mulched because it's where the power enters the property and the power company might need access to it...so all you have to do is push away the mulch and there's a green plastic box under there...the garden angel sits on top of it...
...and then another small separator between that mulched section (there's purple coneflower planted there...wilted now of course but it will come back in the spring) and the newly tilled and edged garden section...still empty...
...and the last little separator between the newly tilled section and the existing corner gardenia bed...
...oh wait...there is one teensy tinsy one between the other hibiscus and the winter garden...just because the post isn't right up against the driveway...
...a big military plane kept flying overhead in circles...
...and the Man continued working on the floodlights...I'll have to show you them in action after dark...
...next I got out my discounted mulch...and this was the only opening in the bag...definitely a good deal for me...
...the corner gardenia beds freshly mulched...now all of the mulching is done for this year...YAY!
...and I spread out all of the discounted topsoil on the new garden bed...

...and we went inside to Christmas-ize the house...

~Have a lovely weekend!

...11.27...HAPPY THANKSGIVING...

...I decided to do a late post today...so I could include all of the delicious vegan food we ate on Thanksgiving...
...breakfast however was pretty light...just a bagel with violife cream cheese and a sprinkle of everything bagel spice...
...I wrote out the menu for the day...just so I don't forget anything...
...and immediately after breakfast we started cooking...as did a lot of people...I'm sure...
...I had gotten the bag of fresh cranberries on sale for 99¢...and thought I'd just make some fresh cranberry sauce...the Ocean Spray kind was on sale for $2.69...you do have to add sugar and orange juice...and cooking time and electricity...but the recipe I'm using is so simple...1 bag of cranberries...one cup of orange juice and one cup of sugar...
...oh...and I meant to show you the two glass lids that I picked up on the side of the street while I was out on my bike the other day...I thought...hey...those look like they'd fit my nesting pots...our Magma induction pots only came with one lid for all three saucepans...and I figured if they didn't fit...I could put them back in my basket and take them back the next day...haha...but they fit two pots perfectly...the large one and this medium one...and it will be handy to be able to see what's cooking...
...I washed and picked over the berries...only two were mushy...so into the pot they went...
...a cup of sugar...
...and a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice..
...also into the pot...and that's it...
...I gave it a stir...
...brought it to a boil...
...and turned it down to a simmer...with the new glass lid on...
...the berries made these cute little popping sounds...like soft popcorn...
...and the sauce thickened up perfectly...
...meanwhile...I chopped some fragrant fresh rosemary from my neighbor's yard...
...and used it to make Bryanna's Breast of Tofu...it'll marinate until we're ready to bake it...
...scraped all of the delicious cranberry sauce into a dish...
...next up was the green bean casserole...we'd actually seen a documentary about the woman who created Dorcas Reilly...you can read about it here...

...of course I'm not using Campbell's soup...so I sautéed some canned mushrooms...
...added almond milk, flour, and this mushroom broth...
...chopped up the mushrooms...
...and added them back to the soup...
...the original recipe did not use French styled green beans...not sure when that became 'a thing'...but we always use them...
...when the soup was nice and thickened...
...I poured it over the beans...
...and set the casserole aside...
...to make the onion topping...I just wanted to try the air fryer version...the classic fried onions are already vegan...
...I sliced the onions thinly...and soaked them in water for 1/2 hour...
...dried them off a bit...
...and tossed them with some flour, salt, pepper and paprika...
...and popped them in the air fryer...
...when they were golden and crispy...I sprinkled them on top of the casserole...they were good...
...just using the boxed stuffing mix from Aldi which is accidentally vegan and a bag of Pepperidge Farms Herb Seasoned stuffing...
...and this is the other lid that I picked up on the side of the street...it perfectly fits our big Magma cooking pot...which already has a nice metal lid...so we'll probably use this one when we want to be able to see what's cooking...
...just dumped both packages into the pot...
...and it made way more stuffing than we are likely to need...even with leftovers...so we'll probably freeze some...
...got the butternut squash out of the oven and sliced it up...
...and the breast of tofu...
...and the casserole...
...and Thanksgiving Dinner was served...
...it was all so delicious...

...I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving Day as well...
