...the hallway bathroom light...

...as promised...there's a new light fixture in the hallway bathroom...
...it's a lot like the one in the Master Bath...but the sconces are upwards here...

...re-setting...

...and again...this is nothing you've not seen before...
...not sure why this is sideways...the Man checks for level...
...and we have a pretty new floor...

...just a couple more things and this room will be well and truly finished...we need a new light fixture over the sink...and some new knobs and hinges to update the cabinet...

...hallway bathroom - grouting the floor...

...once again...this is nothing new...you've seen all this before...

....trowel on the grout...
...wait a bit...
...sponge it off...and wait...
...sponge it off again...
...and wipe off the final haze...

...so glad to have another big job finished...

...Zucchini Noodles and Noodles...

...I thought y'all might be getting pretty tired of the home improvement posts...so I thought I'd share a quick lunch...
...it's basically the same as the Zucchini Noodles that I made before...I just added some regular pasta noodles...because my boys didn't really care for the zucchini noodles alone...
...you can see which noodles are pasta and which are zucchini when you twirl them on your fork...but this might be a good way to 'sneak' in some extra veggies...

...hallway bath...setting the tile...

...this is nothing you've not seen before...same process as in the other two bathrooms...
...I know it looks finished...but this is just the dry fit...with all the cuts made and the spacers in place...
...then troweling on the thinset...and setting all the tiles...
...all done...looks just like the dry fit doesn't it...

...now we just wait...

...hallway bath...choosing the tile...

...now that the walls are all done...it's time to tackle the floor...
...we had originally chosen a dark coffee coloured tile...but when we went to the big box store to get it...they only had it in 18 x 18 tiles...like we used for the foyer...but I didn't want that large of a tile in the bathroom...so we went with this motley speckled almond and chocolate tile...it sounds like it'd be good to eat...HA!...

...Tuesday's with Julia...

...there's a new (sort of) post over at The Vegan Version...
...the Bouillabaise is really just the VEGAN SOUPE DE POISSON...with a bunch of pieces of fish in it...

...a second coat of paint...

...nothing very exciting about a second coat of paint...

...I usually forget that paint darkens as it dries...for some reason I always think that it should get lighter...maybe that's why I'm always surprised at how dark the chosen colour is...but here you can plainly see that it's lighter...

...decorative tile insert...FINAL...

...this little project went down like most of the tile work we've done so far...we troweled on some grout...
...waited...
...and sponged...
...waited and sponged again...
...and then it was done...

...decorative tile inset...

...so now it's time to put those tiles in place...
...this is the space where where we removed the tiles...
...but it's pretty rough...so we took the belt sander and smoothed that all out...
...ready for the mastic...
...we 'buttered' the backs of the tiles as well...
...tiles in place...and ready for grout...

...decorative tile inset...and really tricky diagonal and thin tile cuts...

..this is a rough (very rough) sketch of the tile insert that we'll use to replace the tiles we 'harvested' to cover the space left when we removed the heater...
...but it required that we make these tiny little corner cuts on each tile...
...so first we cut the little one inch square...that we turned on end to make a diamond and placed it in the center of the 4 new tiles...they're almond coloured to match the fixtures...
...and just traced around it to mark the tiles...
...but htere wasn't any way to hold the tile at a perfect angle to make the cut...so we borrowed one of Scout's geometry tools...it worked perfectly...so scoring the tiles was not a problem...
...but when it came time to snap the little corner off...there was not enough of the tile on the right hand side for the little brace that presses down on the tile to get any purchase...

...we we just used a shim to give us the leverage we needed...
...and again...it worked perfectly...the little corner snapped off cleanly...
...so we just repeated that process...
...24 times...
...it also made cutting the little 1 inch diamond squares easy as well...
...we just needed to use a shim on both sides...
...this is what it will look like on the wall...
...then because we had had such luck with the tiny cuts...we decided to replace some really thin tiles along the edge of the tub that had been damaged...so we made a mark...
...and cut 3 very small tiles...

...hallway bath...preparing the floor...

...now that the wall is patched...it's time to get busy on the floor...
...first...we removed the toilet...
...and pulled up the carpet to reveal some neat little white and green tiles...
...almost completely coated with icky glue...
...so we just chiseled the tile off the floor...
...all pretty straightforward...but the hardest thing was removing the grout/glue from the beveled baseboard tiles at the bottom...but a carefully wielded hammer and chisel cleaned those right up...ready for the new tile to come...

...patching tile...

...so we took our harvested tile...and replaced the missing tiles from the heater removal...
...but I don't suppose you can really say replace when there were no tiles there to begin with...

...a pretty simple process really...just spread some mastic with a trowel...and press the tiles in place...
