...Pizza and a Movie...

...Friday nights are often movie nights around here...is that the same for y'all?...

...it's a nice way to wind down after a busy week...
...and what goes better with a movie than pizza...
...I used some of my Melty Vegan Cheese for this individual skillet pizza...it was so good...
...and the 'movie'...was actually a series we're kinda hooked on...I had put Season 3 in the queue ages ago...and Netflix had told me then...'very long wait'...but it finally arrived...and it kinda made my day...

...Thrifty Thursday...

...I was looking for spring napkins when I picked up this pillowcase...for a quarter...

...I thought I could just cut it into 4 squares and hem the edges and I'd have 4 pretty spring napkins...
...such a pretty pattern...
...a tiny bit of damage...
...the old label...
...but I think I've changed my mind...at least for now...

...I stitched up the seam...
...and popped a pillow inside...and put it on my side of the bed...I know it doesn't match...but with the bed made up you can't see it...

...it's such a happy little thing...

...What do you think?...pillowcase...or napkins?

...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...I have another friend expecting a new baby...

...they're doing a Classic Pooh nursery...

...so I'm making a little blankie to go with that...pattern here...without the stripes...
...I've got most of the center block done...It's Lion Brand Pound of Love in Antique White...the same yarn that I used for the B.A.B.Y. blanket...

...what?...you mean you don't use a laundry basket to hold your knitting projects?...it's handy and portable...and easily stow-able in the laundry room out of sight...

...anyway...I'm just deciding what type of border...with this pretty muted lime-y green...

...plain knit with mitered corners like on the B.A.B.Y. blanket...well..except that at this point I'd have to pick up and knit along the sides...

...or a simple single crocheted in the round...like on the Dr. Seuss Blanket...probably not anything with lace - the babe is a boy...

...and...I kinda like this wavy border here...

...What do you think?

...oh and the book in there is this month's Book Club read...The Intern's Handbook...I'm about half-way through it...not really my kind of book though...

...Make your own Vegan...Sliceable...Meltable 'Cheese'...

...every once in a while...I decide to try my hand (again) at making vegan cheese...I always keep some Daiya in the freezer...but it's fun to experiment and try new things too...

...I used the recipe at Sweet Roots...
...I didn't have any tapioca flour...so I just bought some pearls and ground them to a powder in my handy-dandy spice mill...
...mixed it all up and cooked it...
...poured it into a mold...just an oiled rectangular freezer container...
...grated...
...I used it to make quesadillas...
...fried up nice and golden...and until the cheese is melty...
...served with salsa and salad...
...you can see how melty the 'cheese' really is...
...so gooey and yummy and cheese-y...

...I'll definitely be making this 'cheese' again...
...and it slices well too...

...Poppies...and Juniors...

...do you always buy a poppy for Memorial Day...

...did you know that the Remembrance Poppy has been used since 1920 to commemorate soldiers who have died...

...go here if you never read In Flanders Fields...
...in other news...Scout is officially a Junior...we've had such lovely weather that he did a bit of his final studying out on the deck...and I took the opportunity for a surreptitious photo through the screen...

...Vegan Egg Salad Sammie...

Y'all know how I always have baked tofu on hand...I almost always 'scramble' (read crumble and bake) some...I just put some in the oven whenever I have it on for any reason...so I always have it on hand...

...and I often make a vegan egg salad using my vegan eggs...
...but this time I decided (lazy I guess) to use some of my crumbled baked tofu instead of going to the the trouble of making vegan hard boiled eggs...
...I just sprinkled on some black salt (kala namak) - (you'd be amazed at the egg-y flavor this sulfur-y salt imparts)...then the usual vegan mayonaise, mustard, celery, and sweet pickle...
...mix it up and make a sammie...

...it was so delicious...and easy...and the texture of the baked tofu scramble was perfect...

...bathroom floor repair...

...the Man has been busy during my recent illness...

...I did not help him with this little job at all...

...I think this was the last time you saw this project...and it has just been on hold since then...

...well we did do the ceiling fan after we realized that there was really no ventilation at all...
...so...while I was laying around doing absolutely nothing...the Man neatly sawed out the bad pieces...
...got a huge roll of waterproof paper for a 2 foot repair...not sure what we'd ever use that much paper for...but you can't buy a small amount...(Habitat Restore here we come)...
...and very neatly replaced the bad parts with nice new plywood...

...you can see that after we took up all the tile...we decided temporarily to go with carpet again...not my favorite choice...but it's only temporary...

...hopefully we'll have more time this summer to get more done on this room...and we have decided to go with 'biscuit' fixtures in here...a huge compromise on my part...haha...but we'll have white in the master bath so I guess it's ok...

...more comfort food...

...a little more comfort food...this time of my own creation...

...I had been drinking a lot of smoothies...they're good for a sore throat you know...

...and I had a few slices of pineapple leftover in the fridge...
...so I plopped those in my Lodge biscuit pan...they fit in the little circles perfectly...and sprinkled on some brown sugar...
...then I mixed up a batch of my Vegan Vinegar Cake...except instead of just water I used the rest of the pineapple juice mixed with water to make one cup...and poured that into the little circles...
...baked until golden...let it cool a few minutes...but not completely or they'll stick...
...turn your cake plate upside down over the pan...
...flip...
...and unmold...
...I was wishing I had some cherries...because...they would have been really adorable with that cute little pop of red...
...served them on my pretty 'new' glass plates...
...perfectly sized...
...and delicious!

...W.I.P. Wednesday...Heliotropic Repair

...so...let's get something done now that we're feeling better...
...remember the Heliotropic neckline problem...well...I haven't been wearing it because it rolled outwards...

...but I've fixed neckline problems before simply with some elastic thread...useful stuff...
...I just thread a craft needle with some fairly thin elastic thread...doubled...and slip it under each stitch on the back side of the neck close to the edge...
...just continue weaving it in and out between the stitches...
...when you get to the end...adjust the tension evenly by pulling both threads...make sure there's still plenty of give...
...and the neckline will lay properly...nice and flat...

...Flying Dutchman...the super secret socks...

...my sweet Sissie's Birthday was over the weekend...and I'm fairly certain that she has opened her pressies...
...and among them were these socks...The Flying Dutchman...see...I couldn't even mention the name of the socks because as soon as she clicked on the link she would have known they were for her...she probably figured it out anyway...she's pretty smart...HA!

...if you don't know the story...

"In “The Flying Dutchman” (Der fliegende Holländer) - an opera with music and libretto by Richard Wagner - the captain of a ghostly ship is cursed to wander the seas forever without rest. Only once every 7 years he is cast on shore to seek for the love of a faithful woman, which can redeem him. On such an occasion, he meets Daland the shipmaster, who promises him the hand of his daughter Senta in marriage. When they meet, Senta and the ghost captain know immediately that they are meant for each other. But then the stranger declares that he is the “Flying Dutchman” and tells Senta of the curse. As he sets sail to spare the girl his fate, Senta throws herself into the sea, claiming that she will be faithful to him unto death. Thus the Dutchman has finally found salvation, his spectral ship disappears and he and Senta are seen ascending to heaven. "

...I plan to post all of my many 'mods' to Ravelry...but you can see that I didn't go with the stripes...and basically I used bobbins and went back and forth...I had labeled one bobbin 'dark' and one 'light' to be able to follow the pattern...then of course I made the boat red and the waves ocean coloured and the rest of the sock (save the toe) just plain white...with a princess sole...of course...my Sissie is a princess!

...comfort food...

...I'm just (sort of) getting my appetite back...all these meds wreak havoc with the digestive system...and nothing much has sounded good food-wise for a while...but I was kinda craving me some beanie-weenies...

...and the Man obliged by whipping up some from scratch...I can't tell you much by way of recipe...but there's navy beans and great northerns...and molasses...and green pepper and onion...all baked up in there...
...some corn on the cob...vegan potato salad...a vegan weenie...and a cold glass of almond milk...and I was one happy (mostly)-recovered girl...

...Thrifty Saturday...

...of course this was supposed to have been Thursday's Thrifty post...
...so I had stopped by a local Church Shop for a friend...I wasn't looking for anything...but I spied these three lovely depression era pressed glass plates...for 25¢...
...there were only three of these...so they set me back 75¢ altogether...I thought at first that I'd give them to my sweet MIL who actually collects depression glass...(almost all of hers is of the coloured variety...and I'm not sure she wants to branch out into clear glass as well)...but I'm thinking we'll keep them...and you know we've already been using them...they're so pretty and there's just 3 of them...perfect for us...
...glass plates are difficult to photograph well...

...we've been having lovely cool spring weather and everything is very green...

~Wishing you a lovely weekend...
