...the bathroom fan...or lack thereof...

...we discovered a while ago that the hall bathroom's fan basically went nowhere...and you can see how this arrangement caused some water damage to the ceiling...

...not sure if this was a mistake...you know...as in...it was a Friday afternoon way back in 1964...and the guy had just finished installing the fan in the hall bathroom...and meant to go up into the attic and install the ductwork...but got busy doing something else...and then Monday morning it was completely forgotten and the guys came and put the attic insulation in...covering up the fan...and no one ever thought about it again...

...or if it was just by design...which I can't imagine...that anyone would intentionally blow warm moist air up into the attic and just leave it there...
...so we decided that we would replace the fan (placed directly over the toilet) and the light with one unit in the center of the room...so we sawed the sheetrock away and took out the old fan and light...
...that left a rather gaping hole in the ceiling...but y'all know that I am a master spackler...HA!
...so we installed the fan/light and patched the ceiling...
...and then we got back up in the attic and installed a vent...after nearly 50 years...what a novel idea...

...and you can almost see that other shiny new hose in the background...we went ahead and installed a new fan/light in the master bath as well...it didn't have a fan at all (it had a light, of course)...I guess you were supposed to open the window if you wanted ventilation...but as that bathroom window faces the street that wouldn't be likely...

~Have a lovely day!
