...5.30...Dinner and a Movie...

...just leftovers for dinner...so easy and so good...vegan fusilli bake from the freezer...and a big salad with fresh cucumber and tomato from our grocery pickup...with homemade vegan ranch and croutons...and a roll...

...and the movie...The Invention of Lying......it was a cute and funny film about a world where no one (can or knows how to tell) lies...until one of them does...like a lot of Gervais' work it's deeper than it seems on the surface...and we enjoyed it...

...what have you been watching lately?...

...5.29...Friday Favorites...

...y'all know my sweet sissie had a birthday this month...

...and I haven't shown you any pressies...because she's not received them yet...even though they were mailed on May 7th...

...well...that's definitely not a favorite...but...the fact that people are so nice is...
...I had mailed her present in a regular 9x12 envelope...which I weighed on my digital kitchen scale and I went to the USPS web site to find out how much postage I should include...because I didn't want to go into the post office to mail it...

...but if you don't go into the post office...you don't have a tracking number to help find your package if it gets lost...

...but I trust the US Postal Service...they've always done a pretty spectacular job of getting my packages where they belong...

...so...I wrote the Postman a note...just to see if he could track my package somehow after it left my mailbox...you know...they may scan them when they pick them up or something...so I thought..
...but...he wrote a very nice and still hopeful note back...

...so...I'll be holding out hope that the package will yet arrive...and the delay is due to the current unsettled and slightly disrupted state of things in general...

..5.28...What I Ate in a Day ...as a Vegan

...breakfast was just tea and toast...both things that I absolutely love...
...morning snack...was a red delicious apple and organic romaine from our grocery pick-up...
...and a handful of walnuts...
...for lunch...I made some green beans on the Foreman Grill...
...and then had those with some leftover Brussels sprouts, sauerkraut and tofu...
...in the afternoon...I dropped a frozen bag of homemade whole wheat bread and one of the slices broke up...so I toasted it and ate it with some hummus...I'm on my last tub of hummus now...
...and with it...I had saved the pineapple juice when we made kabobs the other night...and I added some of the powdered coconut milk to it and had a pina colada...haha...
...the Man and I had watched this Italia Grandma make pizza...and we wanted to try out her method...
...so I weighed my flour...
...and got all messy mixing it up...
...it rose up perfectly...just like hers did...
...meanwhile I whipped up a small batch of vegan parm...I just whizzed some hemp seeds, nooch, garlic and onion powder, salt, and some italian herbs...it was so yummy...

...Italian Grandma doesn't put mozzarella on her pizzas...
...the dough has risen a second time...and the pans are prepped...
...stretched and spread the dough on the greased pans...
...the Man made her sauce...and then I sprinkled on the vegan parm and some more italian herbs...and baked...
...ok...this is really good pizza...
...and I had a salad with homemade vegan ranch dressing...

...what did you eat yesterday?

...5.27...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...I finished the second of the Sonora Cacti Socks...
...and I must say that I'm pretty happy with them...
...they fit well now...with the addition of a few more stitches...
...and I'm also pretty glad that I had to frog and redo while I'm pretty much just staying at home...
...because I think I might have abandoned the project if I'd had easy access to other yarns...etc...
...so I took some artsy photos...copying the ones from the pattern...haha...I'll post them to my Ravelry notebook too...

...and...for a new (old) project... ...way back in July of 2008...I finished the Bamboozled anklets...
...and they were always a little bit loose and baggy...and they got worse during the wearing...they'd feel pretty good when you put them on freshly washed and sized...and then as the day went on...you'd be sliding around in them...sooooo...
...I decided this time of no-yarn-buying...would be a good time to FROG...rip-it...haha...
...and turn this fancy hand-dyed yarn into something I'd actually wear...so I cast on (mid-sock) with a provisional cast-on...and just started knitting my favorite sock pattern...

...and the yarn was so very kinky when I unraveled it...

...it reminded me of Charlotte...the rag doll made my Caroline Ingalls for her daughter Laura (Little House on the Prairie)...and she used yarn that she had knit and then unraveled so that the doll's hair would be curly...

...not sure why I remember that tidbit of information...but I do love it when things like that from my childhood pop into my mind...I read those books when I was in fourth grade...and it was maybe a little bit after I had learned my very first knit stitches...so maybe that's why...
...not a lot done yet...but I've got a week before I need to start the next Porch Pillow Project...

...just now turning the heel...princess soled ...of course...

...what's in your workbasket?...

...5.26...Tuesdays with Julia...

...we made a delicious cheese-y and creamy scalloped potato dish...
...it incorporates carrots with the potatoes...and I liked that combination a lot...

...and all of the particulars are over at The Vegan Version

...5.25...Over the Weekend...

...there was no Dinner and a Movie Friday....well there was dinner...but no movie because the power was out all evening...
...a pretty violent thunderstorm blew through about 5 PM...knocking down one dead pine tree and one live one...it hit the crepe myrtle and took out about half of it...and there were lots of smaller branches down in the back yard...that one that's stuck up in the ground is buried about 18 inches in the ground...which was already pretty soft because we'd had a lot of rain already...
...this is the crepe myrtle that was damaged by the pine tree...
...it's not a small pine tree...and the whole backyard smells like Christmas...
...and then over at the Church behind the picnic shed the wind took down two huge hickory trees...
...if you know what hickory nuts smell like the air was redolent with that...and also a more earthy root-y smell...
...so destructive...we were glad there was no one there and that the trees didn't hit the picnic shed...
...one of them did smash the new fire pit...
...it was just finished last September...so that was kind of sad...
...what a mess...
...I always thinks it's sad when trees die...
...we just sat around and read during the daylight...and then when it started to get dark and we gave up on getting power back to cook dinner...we lit some charcoal and grilled some tofu...and opened a can of vegetarian beans...so we did have dinner just no movie...
...and then about 10:30 PM...the power trucks came and got the power restored...it's funny when you think about human history and what a short period of time we've had electric power in our homes...but we are certainly dependent on it...and I was really thankful that it was back on in time for showers and bed...
..then on Saturday morning...one of our sweet parishioners sent us this lovely fruit basket and flower arrangement...so we wiped it all down and washed the fruit...I'll plant the flower outside...it has instructions (or constructions as Our Airman used to say)...I ate a pear and it was lovely...I've had apples, oranges and bananas in my grocery cart...but no pears...so that was nice...
...and speaking of groceries...I FINALLY got a bag of carrots...but oddly no tofu...so they subbed tempeh...which is fine with me...other subs were regular raisins instead of golden ones...and lime flavored chips instead of plain ones...so it was a pretty successful shopping trip...haha...
...I still had one firm block of tofu in the fridge...so I baked that ...
...and while the oven was on...I made a pan of cornbread muffins in my biscuit pan...and that's about all the food prep I did...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

...5.22...Friday Favorites...

...Jack and Kitten are of course favorites...

...this is just a funny little story...we ran out of Jack's treats...so the Man ordered him some new ones from Amazon...and because we didn't know what size they would be...they wound up being a little bit bigger than what he is used to...so he gave one to Jack and he was thrilled with it...but he seriously walked around like this for a half hour...with it sticking out of his mouth like a cigar...it was so funny...he even carried it out in the yard to show it off it seemed...it was like he didn't really know quite what to do with it...but he finally settled down and ate the whole thing up...

...then I was thinking as I typed that how we are certainly easily entertained here at home...haha...
...in other favorite news...they did another Sysco order at the Church...and we got paper towels...
...and a huge box of toilet paper...so we're good now...for like a year and a half...haha...

...what are your favorite things this Friday?...

~Have a lovely day!
