...1.31...Dinner and a Movie...

...it was hot dog night...but I didn't have any vegan hot dogs...so I just made a bowl of coleslaw...and sliced a piece of baked tofu in half and added that and some mustard and ketchup to a hot dog bun and called it good...and it was really good...and the air fryer french fries were awesome too...

...and the movie was Chariots of Fire...how on earth I missed this movie I don't know...I mean I remember it of course...I'd just never watched it...and I had no idea at all of how deeply religious it was...it was good...you know...a story about some people...and basically a true story too...even better...

...have you seen Chariots of Fire...(of course you have...haha)...what have you been watching lately?...

...1.30...Friday Update...

...y'all remember how I said I don't spend enough time drawing...well...I sketched the piccies of my grandbabes for Christmas...and started looking about for other things I could 'draw'...

...well...I remembered a post from Beth at BLD in MT : Living a Simple Life in This Interconnected World...where she had created super cute labels for her spice jars...and I thought it would be a fun little project...

...and I LOVE lemon pepper...so I started with that one...they're best friends...hehe...
...and then I trimmed it...
... and made sure it would fit on the spice jar...
...and then I got out my coloured pencils and coloured it...and drew a few more little pictures...
...and coloured them...this is so much fun...
...I couldn't stop myself...and I made a new label for all of the spice jars...
...and then I peeled the original labels off...and taped the new one tightly around the jar...
...such a fun and satisfying little project...
...and then I addressed the little curliques on the baskets on the shelf in my craft room...aka the laundry room...haha...
...the baskets were made by the Man's Mamaw...and gifted to us one at a time over the years...and I've always used them to store things around the house...pillows...magazines...and now they're all lined up on the shelf in the craft room - holding - well - craft things...
...but the little curliques and wooden beads have always sort of bothered me...they catch on things and they're very thin and break...
...so I just decided since they have no structural purpose that I'd just snip them all off and have smooth sided baskets...
...and then since I had the knitting basket down...and it looked rather jumbled...
...I made little wraps for all of the loose needles...the slide on and off easily...and keep the pairs together...
...and I made sure all of the needles were back in the case my sweet Sissie had given me all those years ago...that short worn pair of number eights were my very first pair of knitting needles ever...Mom bought them for me at Roses when I was about 10 years old...
...and finally I saw a super cute little heart shaped night light that I thought would be perfect in the yellow bedroom for the grandbabes...or for other guests if they wanted it...

...1.29...Delicious Vegan Food we ate...

...let's see what food photos are on the camera...
...the Man made his delicious homemade Chow Mein...I took this photo to send to Mom so she could see the wok she gave us in action...
...and even though the wok is huge we still have to cook a mountain of veg in batches...so the Man mixes it all up at the end in this big bowl...and then I didn't even take a photo of the finished meal...but it was delicious...
...oranges are in season now...so we've been eating lots of those...
...a delicious garden salad topped with apples and walnuts...
...I don't think I've shown y'all the replacement tofu yogurt that I made after the bitter kiwi fruit failed one...but I made a batch of my regular blueberry tofu yogurt...and a batch of the tofu chocolate pudding...I may put this into a graham cracker crust and call it a pie...haha...

...what delicious food have you been eating?...

...1.28...W.I.P. Wednesday...

...the Birthday pillow is finished...
...folding it diagonally to make sure it's perfectly square...
...I got this lovely pillow at the thrift store...it won't need a liner or anything...and it's in perfect condition...
...the back...which I won't be covering is a pale grey linen...
...and it's got this super cute bound jute edging that I also won't be covering up...
...I wasn't super happy with the way the letters turned out...on the diagonals there's a little bit of a missed space with the black...from a distance the letters are recognizable...maybe just because it's such a familiar saying...
...so I just threaded a needle with the black thread and sort of embroidered that little blue space on the diagonals...I also did it on the triangular window and the roof edges...it didn't take long and I like the look of it better...
...and then I just stitched it directly onto the linen pillow front covering up the sunflower...and the Birthday pillow was complete...
...and now I just needed to get it packed up and sent to Alaska...

...remember those sheets that I'd gotten a couple of months ago at the thrift store...and I'd said that I was going to use the purple one to make some shiny gift bags...

...I just took a pillowcase for a pattern and made a couple of gift bags...
...and used those to wrap the gifties...and of course there's a little something for the grandbabes in the box too...
...and to save space and get the wrapped pillow stuffed into the box...I put it into a plastic bag and vaccuumed all the air out...it worked perfectly...

...what's in your workbasket this week?...

...1.26...Over the Weekend...

...there was a huge winter storm brewing...and her name was Fern...did you know that winter storms have been named like hurricanes since 2011...I didn't...
...but since we'd already done our weekly shopping trip...we just had a lazy Saturday morning...which we started with a big ol' brunch...
...I made some homemade Just Egg...and sautéed some peppers...(from the newly-organized-freezer)
...and then I cooked it to 'death'...as I can't stand mushy eggs of any sort...
...and then I got out the three remaining Thanksgiving rolls...(also from the newly-organized-freezer)...and sliced them up for 'toast'...
...and sprinkled some Violife cheddar on top of the vegan eggs...
...and then we used up the last of the blueberry jam my sweet Sissie had given u sback in October...
...and then it was time to do some more food prep...just in case we lost power...
...we'd gotten these new-to-us beans...'Orca' beans...for obvious reason...but also called Yin-Yang...and also called Calypso beans...they're supposed to be creamy textured like Turtle beans...with a nutty flavor...
...so we soaked those overnight...
...and cooked them in the Instant Pot...
...I wasn't sure if they'd stay two-toned after cooking...pintos don't...but these Orca beans sort of did...
...so I divvied them up...some destined for the freezer (added to the spreadsheet...haha)...and a couple of tupperwares for us to eat from the fridge...
...and then I made a double batch of Toby's Tofu Dip...it's always delicious...and can just be eaten right out of the fridge with bread or crackers....
...and then I wanted to make Nanny's Mexican Cornbread...but I didn't have any cream corn...so I just got some frozen corn out of the freezer and whizzed it in the Emmie...to give it the right texture...
...I had everything else on hand...and used up some peppers from the garden from the freezer as well...
...and it turned out perfectly...as always...
...I flipped them over out of the pan so they don't get soggy bottoms...
...and then I had bookmarked this soup recipe Creamy Broccoli and Chickpea Soup...and since we also had everything in house to make it...I started sautéing some onions in the Man's new brazier...
...added some green onion from the winter garden...just because I wanted to use them up...and the spices...
...then the vegan stock...
...and the chickpeas...
...added the broccoli and the coconut milk...
...and finally the lemon...and that food-prep was done...and we were ready for Fern...

...we both chatted with our Mom's who were supposed to get a lot more ice than us...our power did go off for a couple of hours during the night...but we did not even get out of bed...it was back on when we got up...so we just re-set our clocks and moved on...
...but Mom was telling me out the delicious Monkey bread that my sweet SIL had brought her...and I thought it sounded really good...but I didn't want to make a whole tube pan full of Monkey Bread...I have a recipe for a yeasted version on Monkey Bread from a long time ago...but this time I wanted more of a quick bread sort...so I mixed up a soft vegan buttermilk biscuit dough...melted some vegan butter and mixed some sugar and cinnamon...
...and then plopped spoonfuls of dough into the vegan butter and then rolled them in the cinnamon sugar and then popped them into the air fryer...
...it smelled delicious as it was cooking and the whole process only took about 15 minutes...
...I love pulling off the little chunks of bread...it was the perfect little two person loaf of monkey bread...
...Church was cancelled...so after noon we went for a little walk around the neighborhood...there is a coating of ice on everything...
...the bushes are crisp and twinkling with it...
...and there's a dusting of snow...I remember learning about all of the different 'types' of snow when we lived in North Dakota...it's fascinating the different temperatures and shapes that create snow...

...this is Rod-shaped snow, known as columns or needles, it forms when ice crystals grow in temperatures around 23°F (-5°C). In these specific conditions, water vapor deposits onto ice nuclei in a way that promotes fast, elongated growth along the c-axis of the crystal, creating slender, rod-like, or cylindrical structures. Key Conditions for Rod-Shaped Snow...

...so guess what the temperature was...haha...
...this is just a random vehicle in the neighborhood...not ours...but it shows the coating of ice pretty well...
...our little bridge with a coating of ice and a dusting of snow...
...the mailbox is the same...
...the poor winter garden may survive this...but it's not likely to survive the week ahead with temperatures falling into the teens...
...but I did pull up a few gorgeous French Breakfast radishes...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!
