...Friday morning the weather had cleared...
...so we took a little stroll down to the river...
...the old horse pasture and pond...
...the small branch that runs off from the spring fed pond...
...down the path through the woods...this also used to be open pasture...now it's completely woodland...
...to the river...there was an erosion project after Hurricane Helene and the flood...so it looks pretty different to me...
...back up the creek where we used to put on our rubber boots and play when we were little...picking creasy greens along the the bank...
...and then back up the hill to the house...I'm amazed at how green the grass is here as it's still completely brown at home...this is probably mostly bluegrass while ours is centipede...
...Mom had a little project for me...of course...she wanted all of her bird feeders filled...so I got out the jugs of seed...(you can see my old sweater on the table - my very fist bit of colourwork...a french pattern from Elle magazine in the 80's)...
...Mom said that this was the jug for filling the cattail shaped feeders...
...but it was not...haha...the thistle seed went everywhere...it's the black sunflower seeds that belong in the cattails...haha...
...so I filled those up and put them back in place...
...then she wanted this 'squirrel-proof' feeder cleaned, moved, and re-filled...which actually took a long time...and three different tries screwing it up...it's the hood that has to be mounted to the tree...and it's a really funny angle that you have to screw into...anywhoo...I used the wrong sized screws...and then I used the wrong set of pre-drilled holes on the hood...but finally succeeded...and it's nice and clean and sturdy and in a location that's better for mom to refill it...
...and then I just refilled the clear feeders on the front window...
...and finally...one of the feeders in the back yard had lost it's front...so I glued it back together...and Mom found a set of coasters that had come apart...so I also glued those back together...
...then it was time for some dinner...roasted Brussels sprouts and squash from my brother and SIL's garden...
...and red potatoes for a potato salad...
..cucumber and tomato salad...roasted squash...baked beans...potato salad and bbq tofu...
...and a whole bowlful of roasted brussels...YUM!
...and vegan ice cream for dessert...
...and we did turn on the tv and watch a couple of old Johnny Carson episodes before bed...they were pretty funny...
...it was a great visit with Mom!

...2.27...A visit with Mom...
...we got up early and left for the drive up to the mountains...with rain in the forecast...it hasn't started yet...
...but it didn't take long...I actually like a nice cozy rainy drive...obvi I'm not the one driving...haha...
...and coming up the mountain we were pretty much in the clouds...
...still pretty soggy when we got to mom's...
...we must made veggie sammies for lunch...
...and then for dinner...Mom had gotten this accidentally vegan 'helper' dinner...so we made the rice portion of that...
...and air fried some tofu to go with it...it was pretty yummy...very salty though...

...2.26...Delicious Vegan Food we ate...
...this one can be a What I Eat in a Day post because I actually have photos of all three meals...
...knowing that I'll be going up to the mountains this weekend and will probably get a bunch of vegan croissants if they have them...I got the last one out of the freezer for brekkie...
...and we got subs for lunch...
...and they were delicious of course...
...it's still pretty chilly here...so we had a hearty warm lentil stew with Japanese sweet potatoes for dinner...
...what delicious food have you been eating lately?...

...2.25...W.I.P. Wednesday...
...one of my little nieces has a birthday this week...and I happen to know that she loves purple as much as I do and that her bedroom is shades of purple and blue...and by purple I mean a light purple or lavender-y shade...like my bedroom when I was little...so I crocheted a bunch of little purple/lavender hearts...
...here's the chart that I used for that...it's super-dooper easy...
...and then I made a bunch of little blue hearts too...
...they are so fun and easy and cute...
...then I made a long chain and added all of the hearts to it...for a sort of bunting that she can drape over her headboard...desk...window...doorway...whatever she wants...
...here it is draped in our dinette for an idea of what that will look like...
...what's in your workbasket this week?...

...2.23...Over the Weekend...
...this was my Saturday morning breakfast...do y'all eat random leftover-y type things like this for breakfast...I do...as much as I love traditional breakfast foods I don't mind just eating random leftovers either...this is California mixed veg, a bowl of grits and a bowl of lima beans...all were leftovers...and milky tea...
...of course we did the shopping...nothing unusual at all...Stuff-Mart has switched from the green box organic unsweet soymilk to the red box non organic and it's the only unsweetened soymilk I can find right now...
...not really 'groceries'...but I got a Popz - the berry flavored one...and these Japanese style peanuts...I'd never heard of them before...they have a little kick from some chili or other and a wheat coating that makes them super crunchy...sort of like wasabi peas...they were fun to try...
...this was the weekend for cleaning the wood floors...
...so we move everything we can off of the floors and then just move things around to get everything nice and clean...
...and then a little bit of food prep...I had bookmarked this spice cookie recipe from NutritionFacts.org...
...and I needed some oat flour...so I just pulverized some oats in my trusty Emmie...
...and baked the cookies...the whole house smelled amazing...
...and they turned out perfectly...
...and stored them once they were cool enough...
...of course I made a batch of Toby's Tofu Dip...
...and I made a batch of my tofu sour cream...
....because I want to make Mom's Hash Brown Casserole...which are apparently really called "Potatoes Deluxe"...
...and without washing out the blender...I also mixed up a batch of Jill McKeever's condensed soup recipe...because I want to make Nanny's broccoli casserole recipe that uses cream of chicken soup...
...I realize Mom's recipe also calls for cream of chicken soup...but I think she always used cream of mushroom...so that's what I'll make for that one...
~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!
