...I decided to move everything into the garage for the final coat of paint...
...I'm using DTM (direct-to-metal)...just because we have almost a whole gallon of it left from the house painting last summer...
...and it's going onto primed cedar...it should be fine and adhere well...and be a good outdoor paint for this project...
...I removed the paper to reveal the cedar left on the inside of the bench...it's not perfect...but it's the inside of the bench and I'm pretty happy with it...
...after it was dry I moved everything inside for assembly...
...the unfinished inside storage area of the bench...
...the hinged seat/lid...
...and the back with the filled in panel...so very happy with how that turned out...it really does look like it came that way...
...and this is the back folded down to form the "table" top for cooking...
...and I'm glad I added a layer of plywood to make it nice and smooth...instead of trying to cook level on the bumpy back side of the backrest...
...so now all that's left is to find some sort of finial to put on the end of these dowel rods in the top slots of the backrest as they'll need to be removeable to lower the tabletop...
...now on to the AMAZING part of this story...I was going to use the leftover blue and white tablecloth material from the dinette to make a cushion for this bench...so imagine my surprise when I was out riding my bike and I found this blue and white striped outdoor cushion out at the curb with the trash...the people were out in the their yard so I asked if it really was trash and they said I was welcome to take it...so I strapped it onto my bike and brought it home...how crazy is that...I love it when the universe gives me EXACTLY what I need...and it strikes me that I'm so lucky that this happens to me so very often...remember the glass pot lids I recently 'found'...
...the price tag was still on it...and there doesn't seem to be anything at all wrong with it...
...and I think I may still make some pillows for the bench with the leftover material...or I may not...it's pretty perfect as it is...
~Have a lovely day!
