...5.3...Over the Weekend...

...in case you missed it...we have a brand new granddaughter...
...everyone is doing perfectly...
...and they're just getting on with their happy little island family life...
...we started the day with more pancakes...because...pancakes are good...
...I did an InstaCart shop...maybe the last one for a while...now that I should be completely (94%) immune...I'm kind of looking forward to 'going' grocery shopping...haha...
...the peppers onion and pineapple are for a "Spam Fried Rice" recipe Our Airman told us about...apparently Spam is quite popular on Okinawa...nothing else much of note...and yes...the Man has quite juvenile taste in cereal...haha...
...I'm still checking things off my spring cleaning list...you know...before it's summer...haha...
...I scrubbed the kitchen floor...and organized the china cabinet drawer...not a lot of progress...I know...but every little bit adds up...and you know one of Nanny's 'sayings'..."you can accomplish a lot in 5 minutes at a time"...
...I scrubbed the sinks with Bar Keeper's Friend...
...and Jack had a bath...he's upset with me right now...and says he's not going to look at me...haha...
...I washed a new shirt the Man had just gotten...it's cotton and dark green with cream colored panels...not a good idea in my opinion...I was worried about it before I even put in the wash in cold water...so not too surprised when it came out like this...

...this was me trying to use alcohol (you know like the Sharpie dying trick) to remove the green dye from the cream strips...it did not work...
...then I tried hydrogen peroxide...
...and it does seem to be working...
...it's lighter and there's green faded onto the towel underneath...I'm trying to be really careful now not to get it on the green part...as I don't want that faded...definitely lighter...I'll let that dry and then try again...I will succeed...haha...
...we fired up the grill and smoked some tofu...for an easy supper...
...and had that with baked potato...I baked two little ones for me and one larger one for the Man...and steamed some broccoli...
...the tree service came back and worked for a few more hours on the big tree inside the fence...
...Mom had said when she was down here that it seems like it would be easier to just take down the fence...
...and that's exactly what they did...so now we have to take Jack out on a leash...
...the very last cut from the top of the tree...already the back yard seems so bare and naked...
...and now it's really bare...
...and some of the limbs are as big as trees...
...this is the other tree still standing in the side yard...I'll be really sad to see it go too...

...It reminds me of when I was little and Daddy was clearing the space for our horse barn...and he said that he hated to cut down a tree...it was a big locust tree...and my ten year old oblivious-to-the-passage-of-time-self asked "why"...and he said..."because I'll never live long enough to see one get this big again"...and I pondered that with a little bit of disbelief as I continued to haul away brush...but it wound up being true...Daddy barely lived another 20 years from then...
...and to finish out the photos from the weekend...I made some vegan tofu yogurt...
...I just blend up silken tofu...with some lemon juice, apple cider vinegar...sugar and vanilla...and then decide what fruit I want to add...
...this time some frozen mixed berries...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

  1. Enjoyed reading about your weekend! The kiddos are such a cute family! The trees just look weird! Are you going to try a garden now with all the sunllight? (Why would you since everyone brings you veggies, haha) Love, K

    1. Hey K,
...I don't think I'll have a garden...we'll see though once they're finished with the trees if we have a good spot for a tomato or two...
      Love,

  2. The weather looks great in your part of the world and on the island where your loved ones live. The new baby is a cutie pie. I can't wait to get my 2nd shot but we're still working on everyone getting their first shot here. I do go out to buy the food though as it takes too long to get things delivered plus I like selecting things myself.

    1. Hi Penny,
...I was just telling the Man the other day that I've not seen a mosquito yet...which is really odd...but it's been a cool dry April and it's raining right now...so it's probably not going to be too long 'til I see one...haha...I'm still planning a big shopping trip this coming weekend...I think it'll be fun...and then quickly lose it's novelty...haha...
      ~Have a lovely day!

  3. As always; your tofu is mouthwatering!
Pictures from the island family are awesome! They seem to adapt perfectly! HOpe this pandemic era goes to its end so that you can go see them!
    Have a nice week!

Haha... Arwen has the same attitude as Jack after her rare baths!
