...7.1...Friday Update...

WOW!...the year is half over...how'd that happen...we're in the heat of North Carolina summer here...just think humid and hot...
...I am so so close to finishing the Read Harder Challenge...I've just finished Disfigured by Amanda Leduc...I thought it was really good...funny after reading Darling last week that she talks about Peter Pan...apparently he was not very nice in the original work either...but since I'd only known the Disney Version...I had no idea he was a cold blooded killer...haha...it was a good book though...about how fairy tales shape how we view disabled people...from Beauty and the Beast and the Brothers Grimm to Disney...

...and I also read the fairly short Astrophysics for People in a Hurry...it was on the Read Harder Challenge for Science in 2017...and completes the last requirement for #24. Pick a challenge from any of the pprevious years' challenges to repeat...and I'd had it on my list since I read Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time last year...it was an easier read than the Hawking book...and a little bit more humorous too...

...now the only book I had left on that list was Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson...and I've just started it...and it is indeed funny...with some serious undertones...much like her previous book (that I read with my old bookclub in West Virginia...Let's Pretend this Never Happened)...and WOW...that was 10 years ago...seems like yesterday...
...and then I think about the only other thing I can show you is the very very beginnings of Amy's little birthday present...we'll get together soon to celebrate both of our birthdays...
...and I can't show you much of it for obvious reasons...but it's a small little thing...in some pretty lavender yarn from stash...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your weekend!

  1. I was stunned when I learned some of the Grimm's versions of the stories I knew, largely, through Disney. I think it was was the Cinderella story and the stepsisters get their eyes pecked out by birds and Cinderella's wedding to the prince. WOW! ;) I've added your related suggestions to my to-read list. Sounds like a fascinating angle.

    Have a super (July-how-did-that-happen!) day!

    1. Hi Beth,
...I know!...the old stories are crazy...and for children...so dark and scary...I'm glad I only knew Disney growing up...haha...
      ~Have a lovely day!
