...I know it's late...even for a Saturday post which is usually late...but we flew to Las Vegas this morning...and got settled in our lovely AirBnb...met up with Our Airman and toured base...
...and this will probably be a series of pretty heavy pictures...
...y'all know how I love to fly...so I'll bring you along for that...we got up at 2:30 AM for a 5 AM flight...and found our gate well before daylight...
...this one was just a "puddle-jumper"...about 1/2 hour in the air...but they did serve us drinks...this one is cranberry apple juice...
...flying in the dark...
...the Charlotte skyline comes into view...
...seated on our flight to Las Vegas...it's foggy out...
...and while we were waiting they served juice again...this one is cranberry and orange...the Man's is just orange juice...
...just starting to get daylight as we left Charlotte...
...they gave us hot towels to wash with before breakast...
...it's so nice and refreshing...
...that's fog pooled up in the valleys...
...they brought coffee and more juice before they served breakfast...
...I had packed a couple of little airline approved bottles of soymilk for my coffee...
...and then my vegan breakfast arrived...toasted coconut oatmeal...fruit...a vegan roll...vegan butter and a protein bar...it was really good...I saved the protein bar for later as I was pretty full...
...up above the clouds...it was a gorgeous day for flying...
...later you could see some irrigated land down below...
...more drinks...
...and desert out the window...
...we could see the Grand Canyon...
...and Lake Mead...
...which is huge...
...and then in no time we were on the ground in Las Vegas...
...the very first thing you see when you get off the plane...funny...gambling is everywhere...not what we're here for though...
...Welcome to Las Vegas...
...heading onto base...
...Our Airman is training at Nellis AFB...
...just a drving tour around base...
...the 555th Red Horse Squadron is home here...
"The 555th Red Horse Squadron is a U.S. Air Force unit, one of the original RED HORSE (Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers) units established in 1965. Its mission is to provide heavy construction capabilities for combat air power worldwide, and it is currently a Reserve tenant unit located at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. The squadron is also known as the "Triple Nickel" and has been involved in numerous large-scale projects, including base construction and disaster response..."
...the mountains around this base really reminded me of the Sandia mountains in New Mexico...
...we got out and walked around with our Airman...
...looking at the aircraft...
...Our Airman at the AirBnb...chatting with his girls...
...it was such a gorgeous evening outside...
...and the patio here is just lovely...
...Our Airman's room for the week...
...our room...so pretty...
...the master bath...it's actually a lot like ours...
...the game room upstairs...there's also an office and another bedroom...but we probably won't be using those at all while we're here...
...we ordered vegan chinese food from a local restaurant with delivery...and I fell asleep on the sofa...haha...
~Have a lovely weekend!
