...Shirataki Rice...

...I've been reading about this calorie free rice on several blogs and thought we'd give it a try...

...when you take it out of the smells bad...really bad...kinda fishy smelling...not like something you'd want to eat...but I'd read about this too...and the directions say to rinse we did...and surprisingly it didn't smell bad anymore...'re supposed to boil for a minute or two in water...I just added a Cilantro cube...I was making black beans and 'rice'...and I like Cilantro in that dish... I boiled it for a couple of minutes...

...drained it...

...then spread it on a towel to dry a bit before adding the beans... really appears to have the texture more of tapioca balls than rice as it's not sticky or starchy at all...

...a scoop of 'rice' and a scoop of beans...

...I was kinda surprised that it tasted just's just that the texture was a bit different from rice...not bad...just different... you have a reason not to have regular rice...this will work...I have a bag of the noodles as well...I'll let you know how they are soon...

~Have a lovely day!

  1. I guess I don't understand; it's not like rice has a lot of calories in the first place...?
Teresa, not being argumentative but moderation in all things, eh?
    Including moderation -smile-.

  2. What? No calories?? What IS it? I have NOT heard of this... off to Google...

  3. Oh I haven't seen that "rice" in my stores yet. But now that I know about it, I will look for it, I don't really like rice so I might like the Shirataki.

  4. It does sound a bit odd - and it does look odd. Is it filling?

I like brown rice best but
I'm always ready to try something new!

  5. interesting! i'll have to try this!

  6. hey - we tried this once - it's actually pretty neat for people who need to limit carbohydrates. lots of reasons to do so including diabetes, of course! i would use it more often - it just cost a little too much for everyday use for me! love, k

  7. Always learning something new with these blogs ~ that is why I love reading them! And cilantro cubes - never heard of those either! I like fresh but in a pinch, would love to have some of those on hand.

  8. Wow! Sounds like a fun thing to try just to say I tried it.

  9. looks like white couscous. What is it made from?

  10. I always enjoy your posts so much! Today I nominated you for a "Sunshine Award". I posted about it here...
