There are hundreds of cup cozy patterns out there...but I thought I'd share a little last minute pressie I made for one of my coffee loving friends...
...this is s good use of a little bit of a 'fancy' yarn...I used a partial skein that my sweet sissie had sent me...because it's pretty and because the fuzziness of it hides the little seam...
...basically it's just a trapezoid...
...I did use my duplicate stitch seam though and it lies pretty flat...
...and it's pretty reversible too...if she prefers the bumpy purl side...
You'll need one size 8 needle for the cast on and bind off...just to make sure it isn't too tight to slip onto your cup easily...
cast on 44 stitches with the size 8 needle...then switch to the size 7 needles and
work in stockinette stitch Knit 1 row Purl 1 row for 4 rows
decrease one stitch at each end of next row (42 sts)
continue in stockinette stitch for 3 more rows
decrease one stitch at each end of next row (40 sts)
continue in stockinette stitch for 3 more rows
decrease one stitch at each end of next row (38 sts)
continue in stockinette stitch for 3 more rows
decrease one stitch at each end of next row (36 sts)
continue in stockinette stitch for 3 more rows
bind off loosely using the size 8 needle...
...and you'll have a pretty little trapezoid...just stitch up the narrow end and weave in the ends...and you're done...
...pop it on a cute ceramic mug...
...How's your elving going?
~Have a lovely day!

Last year I wanted to knit one of these to fit round a mug - disaster! So, I dried orange rings and filled the mug with those instead - went well.
