...Post Labor Day...

...I fully intended to get out here and post about our trip to the mountains yesterday when we got home...but that just didn't materialize...laziness...I guess...was the reason...
...we sort of took a long leisurely backroads way up the mountain...mainly to avoid all of the hoopla associated with the Apple Festival...

...so this photo is from the Blue Ridge Parkway...
...and so is this view of the French Broad River...
...as soon as we got to Mom's...everyone changed and jumped right into the pool...I had not seen the fountain...but they told me it wasn't new...
...then after a refreshing dip in the pool...the kiddos wanted an even more refreshing dip in the old swimming hole...so we hiked down to the river...
...took off our shoes...
...and then hiked up the river...as the path through the horse pasture is no longer there...
...on the way up-river...I spied this pretty fall leaf trapped under the water...fall...already...really...
...then everyone took a turn on the old rope swing...yep...still there...after all these years...it was a lot of fun...
...then back to Mom's for a delicious dinner and a nice visit around the fire...
...it was a short visit and we headed back home Monday...
...and I just kept snapping photos of the pretty clouds and mountains...
...it was a perfect day and a perfect little visit...

...what did you do for the long weekend?...

~Have a lovely day!

  2. It does look so much fun, a swimming hole, fantastic.

I looked up French Broad River and it was there before the Appalachian mountains formed, Its ancient age is how it is presently able to flow from North Carolina through the mountains to Tennessee rather than draining to the Atlantic. (from Wikipedia). Having looked at the map it looked very old with all the meanders, a lovely river.
