...11.5...Dinner and a Movie...

...we came across a neat vegan YouTube channel called Yeung Man Cooking...he has a nice calm demeanor and he just simply cooks and tells you how to do it...a refreshing change from a lot of YouTube channels...
...so...on the menu for the evening was this Masala recipe...which requires this chili oil recipe...so we made that one first...
...it was pretty easy...
...I made a cute little label for the grapeseed oil jar that we refilled with the chili oil...
...it's such a pretty colour...
...I pre-cooked the firm tofu on the Griddler...and since I wanted perfect little cubes for the recipe I had trimmed the block of tofu and I just 'scrambled' the trimmings for later...
...then I started the Masala recipe and I cooked the tofu cubes again with the shallots...we always called green onnions shallots when I was growing and Julia always uses them interchangeably as well...so I'm using them here as they are much more readily available at my grocery...
...then you chop a red onion...
...and all the other components...the tomato and pepper...and you grate the ginger and garlic...
...cook your spice in the oil for a bit...
...until fragrant...
...add the onion...
...peppers...ginger and garlic...
...then the tomatoes...
...and tomato sauce...
...and the tofu and shallots (green onions)...
...and finally the cream from the top of a can of coconut cream...not the watery liquid part...
...and you just swirl that in last...
...top with some fresh cilantro...
...and we had Julia's chilled Vegan Céleri à la Grecque...on the side...which was a nice cool down for this spicy meal...

...it was pretty delicious...and also pretty (Too!) hot and spicy for me...we'll probably make a slightly toned down version again...haha...

...and since I'm reading Lord Jim now...kind of on a Joseph Conrad kick right now...I highly recommend the book...and the movie is pretty good too...it stars Peter O'Toole...

...what have you been watching lately?...

~Have a lovely day!

  1. That tofu dish looks wonderful!! I'm going to make some sort of savory stew tonight since it is going to be very stormy here with TS Nicole bearing down on us! Love, K
