Badlands Fauna
We also saw a lot of wildlife - some of it quite close up. But these wild horses in the Painted Canyon were on the next butte over - they were still quite interested in us and watched us carefully as we climbed back up to the trail...
The Man-Cub was thrilled to see the wild horses - it was on his list of things to do - they had a roundup and sale of some wild horses while we were in Medora - apparently these ones escaped...
Our first glimpse of pronghorn - on our way to the burning coal vein (not burning anymore, by the way - more on that later)...
Some cute little prairie dogs - I know we have these at Sully's Hill - but they are always fun to watch...
A pronghorn - in the Theodore Roosevelt Park - her herd is in the background...
A lone buffalo - also on the Man-Cubs list...
a small rabbit - only about 4 feet from us and she didn't run away - awesome...
Human tracks - with mother and baby deer...
A buck - he didn't like us being around one bit...
and he gathered up his women and vamooshed...
