...9.17..Dinner and a Movie...

...remember that I bought a bunch of specific things at the grocery store for this Persian Meal...the Man had found a youtube video about this delicious Persian meal and sent me the link...
...so I jotted down some notes...
...we're subbing tofu for the chicken...of course...so night before last...I baked some tofu...it's also going on the grill as kabobs (or Kabubbas in ND...haha)...I just wanted it to be a little bit firmer for grilling...
...also the day before...I cut up the onion and pepper...made the saffron tea (reserved some for the rice)...
...added olive oil, salt, pepper, vegan mayonnaise and the pre-baked tofu to a tupperware...
...and shook it up to coat everything nicely...
...and popped it into the fridge to marinate...it smells really good already...
...then I also mixed up the Maast-o Khiar recipe...I'm using the Kite Hill yogurt...it's really yummy...but costs $6...crazy...
...I grated one of the cucumbers we were gifted last weekend...
...added the yogurt, salt, pepper, garlic and mint...
...it's a really simple and delicious sauce...it reminds me a lot of Tzatziki...
...and then finally...I made the Shirazi Salad...which is just a nice fresh cucumber and tomato salad...I just chopped up similar amounts of cucumber and tomato and red onion...
...and a handful each of mint and cilantro...
...added salt, pepper, lemon juice, and olive oil...definitely my kind of salad...I love-love-love cilantro and mint...
...then last night...I made the rice...while the Man was cooking the kababs on the grill...I loved the container for this Basmati rice...that it pours like a milk carton...
...cooked the rice with Earth Balance and salt...then added the remaining Saffron Tea from last night...
...stirred that in...and the fragrant rice was done...
...we also grilled some tomatoes on skewers to go alongside...
...and then just served everything all together...
...and it was all so delicious together...the flavors complimented each other so well...just get a little bit of each item on your fork...really really good...and I'm looking forward to eating the leftovers now...haha...

...and I claimed the movie choice...and chose The Imitation Game...a little bit suspenseful for me...but the Man liked it too...sort of a war story...sort of really sad too...and true...

...what have you been watching lately?...

~Have a lovely weekend!

  1. Your dinner looks scrumptious. I love Persian food and all mediterranean food in general. Tonight I'm making a Kenyan dish for hubby. It's Kenyan fish stew made with tilapia fish as that is the kind of fish Kenyan's primarily eat from Lake Victoria. Maybe I'll watch a movie afterward but haven't decided on one yet. Enjoy your weekend.
