...2.16...New House Update...now and then...

...Mom is coming for a visit this weekend...and we'd been storing all of our family photos on the guest bed...so we wanted to get those up on the walls before she came...
...and of course the walls need to be painted first...so I scrubbed all the baseboards in the hallway...
...and then to protect the carpet...we put down plastic and canvas drop cloths...and for painting the baseboards...we tucked cardboard under them...it makes a nice tight seal and we'll be able to paint to the bottom of the baseboard...
...and then we started painting...
...I used masking tape directly on the carpet around the doors though...because I couldn't wedge the cardboard under them...
...I painted the baseboards and trim and the Man painted the walls...
...I added a piece of quarter-round at the top of the stairs...and I sealed it to match the stairs...but now...I'm thinking maybe it should be white...
...and then we hung all of the pictures...really...I just mostly held the level a few times...

...I do love a freshly painted wall...
...but I also painted the very last spindle on the staircase...that's been a weeks long project...and I know you've not seen the beginning of it yet...

...because the next thing back in the past is the carpet replacement...we needed to get these big flooring jobs done before we started moving any furniture...

...now back to the past...
...remember when I mentioned the odd state of this house when we bought it...the neighbors who'd been inside said that it was just stacks and stacks of boxes everywhere...we never saw it like that...
...but we could definitely see where the boxes had been...this is in the master bedroom...there were rows of boxes with spaces in between for walking...and the carpet although it's not worn at all definitely has to be replaced...
...but the middle (and smallest) bedroom must have been used to store furniture instead of boxes...you can see the divots left by the legs of the furniture...and there are no stains on the carpet...and I wanted to take it up...and use it to carpet the attic...I just thought it would make it a lot nicer up there...
...so we cut out strips the width of the floored area of the attic...and rolled them up...
...and then we left the padding for the carpet layers to deal with...
...we used up all of the carpet in the small bedroom and a strip from the guest room as well...it really doesn't matter what the carpet looks like in the attic...
...but here it is in place in the attic...isn't that much nicer than bare plywood...
...I know we're not going to spend very much time at all in the attic...but when we're up there or when the service tecnicians come to check on the furnace...it will be a lot more pleasant...
...and guess what we found up there...a spare kitchen tile and a few for the master bathroom as well...so if any get broken we can replace them with the exact same tile...the really smooth edged kitchen tile that I was wondering about only has made in spain on the back...no colour or model number at all...oh well...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your weekend...

  1. Love the photo wall!!! And that carpet being faded is so weird!! Good idea about using the carpet up in the attic. Love, K
