...10.27...A Weekend with my Sissie...

...this is a really long post...it's a bit of a road trip up to Sissie's house...
...the Man decided to take the backroads...and it was a glorious fall morning when we set out...
...it really is a lot nicer than just driving on the interstate...
...we saw rivers...
...and trains...
...and a little bit of fall colour...
...and before we knew it we were driving down Sissie's newly paved driveway...it's so nice...
...after visiting for a bit...we went for a little walk...and ran into one of the neighbors and her adorable rescue doxie...so sweet...
...and then we toured a new house that's being built in the neighborhood...it's a dome house...it was fun to see the contruction at this stage...the Man and I had looked at geodesic domes when we built our first house...but went the traditional route in the end...
...then Sissie served a delicious BBQ dinner...shredded smoked tofu...and all the fixin's...corn, baked beans, slaw, and potato salad...it was all sooooo tasty...
...and after dinner...it was time for Sissie to open her (very very belated) Birthday presents...I said she had to guess each one...and she got two out of three RIGHT...well...she does basically get the same thing every year...haha...
...the only one she missed was the only 'boughten' (ND word) present...it's a bathroom towel hook like ours that she mentioned that she wanted one and had the perfect place for it...
...then she also got a recycled scrubbie...like Mom's shaped like a flower...
...and a non-white dishcloth...
...and then we sort of had Dinner and a Movie...we watched the first episode of a new-to-all-of-us series...The Righteous Gemstones...it's good...it's a story about some people...and they're pretty much the horrible televangelists that live a double life and take advantage of their congregants...
...we had a delicious vegan brekkie...scrambled tofu, bagel vegan cream cheese and blueberries that Sissie had picked back in the summer...
...then we drove over to the lake for a hike...
...it was another beautiful day...just a little chilly and perfect for a hike...
...the lake came into view...
...so we walked down to the shoreline...
...such a pretty and peaceful place...
...then we drove across the bridge to find the old logging road that we used to drive out when we camped here (a lot) a long time ago...but it was blocked off...I guess they don't want people wild camping there anymore...
...after our hike we headed to the Plant for some refreshment...
...the trees still have just a kiss of fall on them...
...it had been an aluminum smelting plant during WWII...
...and in a nod to that origin...there was a beautiful aluminum sculpture...
...it was an artsy sort of place...and there was live music too...The Plant is described as an eco-industrial park...
...and some other scultures...
...they were also growing a bunch of things in the nursery...all native plants...
...after all that fun...we headed home for a late lunch...and Sissie made a wonderful Lentil stew with butternut squash...
...and we had the yummiest dip while it was cooking...
...and fresh sourdough bread made by my Nephew...
...it paired perfectly with the delicious stew...
...then we went picking...
...Sissie sent me this photo of me among the grape vines...

...we picked peppers...banana and sweet...bags of grapes and figs...
...and just look at all these kiwis...it was a lot of fun being outside chatting and visiting and picking...
...and then dinner out at a super nice Mexican restaurant...and another episode of The Righteous Gemstones when we got home...
...breakfast on Sunday was a repeat...still delicious though...and all too soon...it was time to head home...
...back down the same backroads...
...it was a little bit overcast...
...which somehow made it even nicer...
...we drove past peach farms...
...and pine groves...
...and sorghum fields...
...and cotton fields...

...and then we were home...but this post is already so long that I think I'll come back tomorrow and post the rest of the weekend...haha...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!
