...10.28...the rest of the weekend...

...so...Sunday afternoon...after we got home...
...first of all...I'll show you all the loot we brouht back with us...
...Sissie's delicious blueberry jam...THREE jars...
...two bags of Scuppernong grapes...
...a stuff bag of kiwis...
...Sissie said to put them all in the fridge and just put a couple on the counter each day to soften...and they would keep for a long time like that...so that's what we're doing...
...sweet peppers...
...and a mix of hot and banana peppers...no way to tell which are which...haha...
...some ripe and ready to eat figs...
...then I headed out to the square foot garden to check on things...a few more baby peppers were born...hoping they'll have time to mature before the first frost...
...and I picked another good handful of cowpeas...I'll be pulling them up soon...probably this weekend...they've slowed down a lot and we may get a frost anytime now...
...then we had to do a bit of shopping...of course...
...let's see...not a big shop at all...but I got a bag of sugar to turn the grapes into jam with...and the Man had bookmarked a Conoisseurus Veg chickpea meatloaf recipe he wanted to try...trying Stuffmarts pizza dough and sauce for another cheap pizza alternative...we'll see...the rest is just regular...
...so with a few hours left in the day...I decided to go ahead and tackle the grapes...also...no room for them in the fridge...haha...

...I gave them a bath...
...and plucked off all the stems...we weren't very careful pickers...
...and I had two beautiful jugs of Scuppernong grapes...
...and I put the chickpeas to soaking...
...and started cooking and mashing the grapes...
...they look pretty yucky at this point...
...then I mashed that goop through a fine mesh seive...
...the juice and pulp were almost equal...
...I put the juice in my nutmilk bag...
...and hung it up to drip...
...squeezed out the last bit of juice...
...and got that simmering on the cooker...
...added a bunch of sugar...
...and just like that we had delicious fresh Scuppernong jam...I searched the interwebs for why it turned red...not that I minded...I was just surprised because I was expecting a sort of 'blonde' jam...and the interwebs say it's caused by oxidation...still very delicious though...

~Have a lovely day!

  2. Yes, I was surprised at how red it was too, but I agree it’s fun having it red. Love, K
