...this is my final "Little Red Hat"...this knobby ball of burgundy/red yarn came from the N.O.A.H. closet...
...so I just cast on without a pattern...
...32 stitches on size 10 dpn...knit 3 rows in k2p2 ribbing...and then knit 10 rows stockinette...then decrease every other stitch 3 times with a knit row in between...
...and in no time at all you'll have a super cute little hat...
...so...in all I made 12 little red hats...
...what's in your workbasket?...

...Tuesdays with Julia...
...we made a delicious fluffy creamy mousse...VEGAN MOUSSE À L'ORANGE...
...and Julia suggests serving it in the scooped out orange halves...
...it's a frozen dessert...and it kind of reminded me orange sherbet...it was good...
...and all of the particulars are over at The Vegan Version...

...Over the Weekend...
...I'm about 90% recovered from my bout with shingles...
...so I finally felt like getting back in the kitchen...and I used the cute little bundt cake pan my sweet sissie gave me years ago...
...and made a simple vegan cake...and iced it with chocolate icing...
...then Saturday evening there was a 'Fish Fry' at the Church...and the only thing I could count on being vegan was the red slaw...so I whipped up a few vegan hushpuppies...
...and decided to bake them instead of frying them...
...I actually put them back in the oven for a bit after I took this photo as they weren't quite browned enough...
...and alongside the hushpuppies...I baked one of these fishless filets...
...and wrapped those up in some foil to take over to the church...
...I mixed up a little cup of vegan tartar sauce...just mayo, mustard and some relish...
...my vegan plate...it was all very yummy...and I had lots of questions about the vegan fish...I wish I'd made more so people could try it...
...they cooked the fries separately...so those were vegan as well... ...part of the crowd...they actually way underestimated the crowd...and ran out of food after just 45 minutes of serving...but someone ran to the store (10 miles away) and they came back and served for another half hour... ...the frying station outside in the shed and shielded against the wind...because it kept blowing out their propane fires...
...I hope you all had a lovely weekend...and I expect this to be a much more normal week for me...

...W.I.P. on Friday...
...first of all...let me say a heartfelt thank you for all your kinds words and thoughts...I am really touched by your kindness...
...and I'm much better...so much better... ...that I managed to knit another little red hat...so that's 10 done...I may still crank out a few more before the deadline...they want to start giving them out February 1st...to each baby born in February...
...I've been back to the doctor and although she thinks I've got another week or two with some pain...it has diminished so much that that's not that bleak a prognosis...
...and I've been so well cared for by the Man...of course...but we've had casseroles dropped off...and lots of texts and phone calls and emails...
...so I've been getting situated in the recliner...laptop...phone and kindle close by...and knitting at the ready...but really I've mostly just been listening...my dear friend Maureen suggested audiobooks on YouTube...and that has been the most perfect pastime...as any little movement can cause quite a bit of discomfort...but I'm able to just lie still and listen...
...I took her suggestion and listened first to Samuel West reading 'The Day Of The Triffids'...Y'all know that I'm not a huge sci-fi fan...but this book was really good...very War of the Worlds...and it was as Maureen put it 'beautifully read'...
...so then I saw the Google Banner on Thursday was for Virginia Woolf and I clicked on it...and found another audiobook on YouTube The Voyage Out...her first novel...I'm just a couple of hours into this one...and it's not so beautifully read...kind of monotone...but...I'm just laying there with my eyes closed so it's fine...
...this really has been the perfect 'activity'...

...shingles...
...and...not the "on the roof" kind...
...this post probably falls under the TMI category...
...but most Affectioknit readers are family or friends and people who know me personally...so I'll share...and I'd for sure be talking to you about this if we met at Church... the library or the grocery store...as there's not a lot else on my mind right now...
...so...look away now if you're squeamish...(jk...I actually left the camera rather far away...so it wouldn't be too detailed a photo...)
...what happened was...
...last Thursday...when I woke up I was having a little bit of pain in my hip...so...I just thought I'd overdone things the day before and didn't really give it much thought...but as the day went on...the pain increased...and I could hardly sleep Thursday night...and so far that was my only symptom...
...Friday the pain in my hip increased and the skin between my hip and knee became extremely sensitive to the touch...and I kept saying to the Man...I don't know what I've done to my leg...and he called me Tim Conway...because I was moving so slowly...haha...
...I took some over the counter pain meds and tried to sleep... ...sometime over the weekend the rash appeared...this stripe across my lower leg...and another one just like (but larger )...it across my right behind...and a quick internet search confirmed that it was likely shingles...
...so I got myself to the doctor and she said that shingles follow certain nerve pathways...and mine is sciatic...and it almost always only affects one side of the body...
...she prescribed an antiviral...and offered me narcotics...but I declined...
...I took the first ginormous pill when I got home...and I really do feel better already...but things may be quiet here for a bit...I can't even really manage to knit...
...stay healthy out there...and...sorry for the T...M...I...just keeping it real...

...Over the Weekend...
...we had the Winter N.O.A.H. Retreat...
...it was well attended by all ages...
...and we got a lot of knitting a crocheting and talking done...
...someone was passing around this super cute and super easy crochet pattern...so I made one...
...seriously less than half an hour...
...so I made another one...crocheting in the back loop for a little bit of variety...
...and then with a little bit of spare red yarn from the closet...
...I made this adorable top knot hat...
...so I'm still one short of my goal of ten hats...but I actually have until the end of the month...and I'll make as many more as I can between now and then...
~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

...Dinner and a Movie...
...we had snow...
...so we had Potato Soup...OF COURSE...
...we always had potato soup and cornbread when it snowed when I was little...
...and since the kiddos were out of school for the snow...(both the University and the Community College shut down)...
...we let them choose the movie...
...and they chose Pirates of the Caribbean 5 - Dead Men Tell No Tales... ...and this was my FIRST PotC movie...but that didn't really seem to matter much...the storyline was is pretty easy to follow...and there are lots of flashbacks to explain why things are the way they are now...aaaAAANND...we had two peple we could question if there was anything we didn't understand...haha...so it was a fun evening...
...what have you been watching?...

...Snow Fun...
...Scout and Our Girl bundled up ready for some fun in the snow...
...they tramped around the backyard...making tracks...
...and built a rather large and rather dirty snowman...
...Callie had a ball with all the people outside...
...we'll probably only get one more day with the white stuff...it's supposed to get up to 50 today...

...a snow event...
...we woke up to snow covered ground yesterday...
...the forecast was for 1 - 2 inches...but they were a little bit wrong this time...
...as the snow continued to fall...pretty much all day long...they changed the forecast to 4 - 6 inches...
...by about 5 o'clock it was mostly just a few flurries...
...and we had about 4.5 inches of snow...
...everything is so pretty covered in snow...
...so we headed out on the snow covered country roads for a little 4-wheel drive...
...everything is so quiet and beautiful...

...Tuesdays with Julia...
...we made VEGAN POMMES À LA SÉVILLANE...
...which is a sort of citrus-y apple tart...
...it was very delicious...and I'd actually make it again...it was pretty simple...and used ingredients that I almost always have on hand...
...all of the particulars are over at The Vegan Version...
