...we got up early and had a big pancake breakfast...
...with a homemade vegan sausage patty...that was a delicious start to the weekend...
...then I packed up my bag with my new water bottle and a couple of masks and gloves...and headed to the grocery store...
...still not a huge amount of shopping...
...of note...pumpkin spice creamer...and some vanilla wafers...I was so happy to find these...but more on that in a bit...
...we needed some charcoal and chips...and potatoes...
...now about those wafers...sadly...they are NOT vegan...and it's a mistake I've made before...don't worry...our Church has a food bank drive going on right now...so they will be donated...
...but I read the front of the box...and did not carefully read the ingredients...The "U" or "K" symbol on a product means that it is certified kosher...it often does mean vegan also...but NOT ALWAYS...arghhhh...oh well...
...so...onto the BIG project for the weekend...
...weeks and weeks ago now...(before the pandemic)...Mom gave us her pressure washer...it's gasoline powered and she wanted an easier to start electric one...
...and we really need to pressure wash the outside of the house...
...most of the windows look like this...cobwebby...leafy...and well...just dirty...
...so the Man had no trouble at all cranking it...and it's kind of fun to use...
...mainly because you can see such a dramatic difference in the clean and the unclean areas...
...we washed the back windows...and the back porch...
...and then...the front door needed some attention too...
...and the front porch was very mossy...
...but see what I mean...this is just water at pressure...no chemicals were used at all...
...a few 'after' shots...a clean porch...
...clean living room windows...
...a clean front door...
...clean den windows...so nice to look out through those...
...a clean kitchen window...
...and a clean back door...
...and finally...while I had the sprayer out...I washed my bike...so a clean bicycle as well...
...this was such a satisfying project...Thanks for the sprayer Mom!...
...in other news...they cut the hayfield next to us...and I was so worried about it because we've had so much rain this August...
...but it dried...
...and they got it raked...
...and baled...and then this morning we were awakened by thunderstorms at 6:30...so just in time they managed to make hay while the sun shone...
...and I saw this from our newly washed kitchen window...
...a few fallen leaves scattered on the lawn...
...welcome harbingers of fall...

...8.29...Dinner and a Movie...
...I roasted some colourful fingerling potatoes... with rosemary and olive oil...
...and had that with some grilled tofu and a salad...the potatoes were delicious...I put A-1 sauce on the tofu...
...and the movie was East Side Sushi...nice and light after last weeks stressful one...guess who picked...haha...
...basically it's a feel good movie about a working class single mother overcoming odds and prejudices to realize her dream...
...a good movie to knit by...
...what have you been watching lately?...

...8.28...Friday Favorites...
...I'm happy that Confirmation classes are able to resume over Zoom...haha that rhymes...
...I meant to post this favorite pie pan on Tuesday...but somehow missed that picture...something about tin pie plates makes a better crispier crust...
...my dear friend Amy came for tea...and we shared a pretty pot of a flowering tea...
...it's Jasmine flavored and pink amaranth...
...it starts as a tight ball...and unfurls into a beautiful flower in the teapot...so best viewed in a glass teapot...
...it's delicious and so much fun to share...my sweet sissie had given me a beautiful box of these balls from her trip to China...the kiddos brought me this bag back from a trip to the beach...I have one flowering tea ball left...
...and on the not-so-favorite front...the annual family reunion has been cancelled...it was rescheduled from July...but now with restrictions still in place it had to be cancelled... last year's reunion highlights here...

...8.28...What I Ate in a Day ...as a Vegan...
...Breakfast...was just a big bowl of cereal...with homemade almond milk...and fruit...
...mid-morning...I had another apple...and some tea...
...lunch was one of my 'bowls'...black bean chili...sweet potatoes...and broccoli...and a little bit of fresh cucumber on the side...
...afternoon...I found these two small bits of leftovers...spinach and collards...neither one even a serving...so I just microwaved those and ate them up...I abhor food waste...you know...
...later in the afternoon...I was still kind-of 'snacky'...
...so I heated up a cornbread muffin...this really is becoming quite the 'snacky' kind of day...
...and then I really wanted brinner (breakfast for dinner)...so we made vegan scones (not sweet...just like biscuits)...and vegan sausage gravy...and scrambled tofu...I love breakfast anytime really...but especially for dinner...how about you?...
...oh...and I had some of those delicious homegrown tomatoes with that...I remember Daddy having tomato for breakfast when I was little...and how funny I thought that was...(not in a good way...but in a sort of ...eeeuuuwwww...way)...so now...it's funny to me that I like tomato with breakfast...
...what did you eat yesterday?...

...8.26...W.I.P. Wednesday...
...I made these slippers for my sweet Sister-in-law's birthday...you crochet this odd shape...
...and then you fold them over and they become this cute slipper...the pattern is Lizzie...
...I embroidered a cute dish towel for my friend's daughter's wedding...
...and I knit a grandma's favorite dishcloth to go with it...
...and then I wrapped it all up and sent it on it's way to North Dakota...
...the first of the old Paton's pattern footlets
is almost finished...instead of finishing on two needles and having a seam...I switched to knitting in the round...
...and where I joined to the two knit three borders...I knit the center two stitched together and then decreased down to one while knitting the top of the footlet...I'm pretty happy with it and the fit...but I may still go back and do a row of single crochet around the top...just to keep everything nice and neat and snug...
...all that's left is Kitchener-ing the toe...and then knitting another footlet...
...I made another sweet little baby hat and put a pompom on top and a white border...
...and my sweet SIL sent me a photo of her wearing her new slippers...they look really good on her...
...what's in your workbasket?...
