...Our Airman suggested that we go to this Cinema...for dinner...because they actually serve dinner to you while you watch the movie...
...it was a neat old building...with a retro vibe...
...you sit in these recliners that have a small table attached to one arm...
...and while you watch the previews...
...you peruse the menu...they had a Vegan section...YAY...and decide what you want...and you write it on the slip of paper and put it in the stand at the front of your little table...and the server comes by and picks it up...
...I got the cauliflower wings with vegan ranch...and I was photographically challenged here in the dark...
...but the wings were delicious...a little bit spicy...with the cool ranch and celery...they were perfect...
...and the movie was Our Airman's pick...and he chose Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark...because he read the books when we lived in North Dakota...and he said the movie was pretty spot on...of course it's not something I would EVER choose to watch...and I looked down at my plate and covered my ears several times...hahaha...
...what have you been watching lately?...
...ever been to a dinner cinema?...

...What I Ate Traveling in Texas...as a Vegan...
...breakfasts were mostly at home (AirBnB Home)...and mostly the same...
...so glad I had the foresight to pack some Kala Namak (black sulphur-y salt)...it makes perfect tofu eggs...
...and we found this new to us vegan bacon...at H.E.B.
...and it was really delicious...
...so this is breakfast one day...
...and this is another...pretty much the same...
...we bought some delicious BIG peaches for snacking...
...there was no teapot in the rental house...so I just put a plate on top of a cup to steep the tea...
...Our Airman wanted to go back to Pancake Joes for breakfast one day...so of course we did and I got my 'omelette' hash...I just ask for the veggie omelette with no eggs...subbing potatoes...no butter and no cheese...obv...
...and it comes with toast...so I satisfy my 'pancake' craving simply by slathering the toast with pancake syrup...
...one of our lunches out...broccoli and a baked potato with BBQ sauce...it hit the spot...
...another day we went back downtown to the Riverwalk...
...past La Antorcha de la Amistad...the Torch of Friendship...remember it was being repainted when we were here before...so it's really pretty now with it's fresh coat of paint...
...we went back to the same Mexican Restaurant on the river...and they had a Mariachi band...
...and they played a song for Our Airman...so much fun!
...we had chips and salsa...of course...
...and I had the same BIG and delicious taco salad as before...
...another day we went to Mina and Dimi's Greek restaurant...which one of Our Airman's classmates had recommended to us...
...I had a hummus and veggie pita...and that was delicious as well...
...and then of course...Our Airman wanted to go back to WhatABurger...I had a veggie sandwich with avocado...it was yummy...and they are so friendly...
...and we went back to Schilo's...and had breakfast...I got a bean taco with no cheese...a small bowl of grits and dry wheat toast...
...which I made the most of by splitting it up...so I could have marmalade...blackberry jam...and syrup...
...I made a lot of tea...and I loved these big owl mugs...
...we cooked burgers on the grill one night...and had corn on the cob on the side...
...Our Airman wanted to try Big Red...it must be a Texas thing as I'd never heard of it...it tastes sort of like bubble gum...and there's a Blue variety as well...
...and a big pan of tater tots...
...and that was an easy fun and delicious meal...
...the last time we were here...we tried the Nada Moo N'ice cream...
...this is the Rockiest Road version...so yummy...
...what do you eat when traveling?...

...Graduation Dinner...
...Our Airman requested Hibachi for dinner...we've been a couple of times to this type of restaurant...it's kind of 'dinner and a show' as the chef cooks in front of you and makes jokes and interacts with you...it's always fun...
...this restaurant was actually called Teppanyaki...not Hibachi...Teppanyaki grills are commonly confused with the hibachi barbecue grill, which has a charcoal or gas flame and is made with an open grate design. With a solid griddle type cook surface, the teppanyaki is more suitable for smaller ingredients, such as rice and finely chopped vegetables....and I remember Hibachi grills...that everyone had on their deck in the 80s...but I'd never thought about it as the name of a restaurant that didn't use a 'grill' at all... ...we had a lot of fun with our chef... ...and the fire show was pretty impressive... ...I had avocado sushi... ...salad and edamame...it was all delicious and fun...
...have you ever been to a Hibachi/Teppanyaki grill before?...

...Graduation...
...after another 8 weeks of studying...graduation day finally arrived for Our Airman...so we were up and on base early for the ceremony...
...the coveted silver wings of Air Crew...
...lined up for graduation...
...The Airman's Wife pinned on his wings...
...receiving the certificate...
...and then...there's only ONE Distinguished Graduate...the one with the highest test scores...and guess who that is...Our Airman...
...lined up for congratulations...
...the Distinguished Graduate coin...so special...
...plans for a celebratory dinner...I'll post about that tomorrow...

...San Antonio Day 2...
...since Our Airman is in tech school...we were able to spend a lot more time with him than when we came down for Basic graduation...we could pick him up right after classes ended for the day about 4:30ish...this is his classroom building...
...we did not do a lot of on base sight-seeing like we did the last time...but we had missed this retired Air Force One plane when we were here before...so that was pretty neat...
...Our Airman suggested that we check out the Menger Hotel...we had seen it in the distance when we were here before...it's where the horses hang out trying to stay in the shade...
...inside there is a shop that sells intricate little figurines...or toy soldiers...they have an amazing diorama of the Alamo...
...and this one of King Arthur's court...so funny to see it because we watched Monty Python's Holy Grail while we were here...
...inside the hotel was so posh...
...and pretty...
...I loved the stained glass ceiling...it reminded me of Le Printemps in Paris...on a much smaller scale...of course...
...but mostly Our Airman just wanted to spend time with The Airman's Wife...so we headed back to the AirBnB for the evening...it was closer to base than the last time...and we really enjoyed it...
...a big comfy living area for lounging around...
...and a nice sized dining area...
...because Our Airman is apparently getting a little bit bored with the Dfac...and had some special requests for dinners while we were in town...first request was for some 'twice-baked' potatoes...this is the Daiya shreds...
...and I made some croutons for a nice big salad...
...and baked some tofu...of course...
...and we had a nice sit down home cooked dinner with Our Airman...
...and for dessert...I'd gotten one of those sweet Texas melons...we had one the last time we were here and it was the best one I've ever had...this one was good too...
