...y'all know how much I love okra...growing up...I mostly ate it fried...
...just washed and sliced...and tossed with some cornmeal...
...and now...I make 'fried' okra in my Foreman Grill...it's super easy and fat free...
...it crisps up just like fried...
...and I just break it up a bit...and it's one of our favorite things...
...do you like okra?...

...W.I.A.Y. ...
...not a very exciting day of vegan eating...
...I had Cheerios and Bananas for breakfast...this meal always reminds me of my Daddy...for some reason...when we were little we thought it was so funny to see Daddy turn his bowl up after he finished his Cheerios and drink the leftover milk...
...lunch was a strange mish-mash of leftovers...the central bowl is peas/broccoli/corn/cauliflower...it was good and different...leftover cabbage, leftover collards, leftover great northern beans, and some of that good sweet brown bread (from the freezer)...and a cup of tea...
Dinner was corn on the cob, a roll, tofu, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas, and cranberry sauce...
...and dessert was just a 'depression cake' and sliced strawberries...Food Lion had berries 3 for $5...so we've got 3 lbs. of berries to get through...
...what did you eat yesterday?...

...W.I.P. Wednesday...
...I have slowly been working on Purl Soho's Circular Yoke Summer Shirt...just a couple of rows a day...
...and...I should have listed among my presents the little tape measure that the Man gave me for my birthday...
...so the pattern says to unroll the sweater...(you know how stockinette stitch curls up)...and measure 5 1/2 inches...and start the decreases...
...BUT...I was reading ahead...and saw the instructions for finishing the hem...and you pick up and cast off those stitches...which seems crazy to me...as I would have FOR SURE used a provisional cast on for that...
...so I laboriously unraveled the first row from the start...and it was really tedious...think Kitchener stitch in reverse...so now those stitches are on another circular needle...and I'll go ahead and cast those off per the directions...
...what's in your workbasket?...

...Home again...
...y'all know we used to live in Colubmia, South Carolina...and whenever we pass through Columbia I always want to stop at the little Health Food Store I used to frequent when we lived there...
...after my SDA store closed down in Asheville...I think it's all the more important to support the small businesses...
...anywhoo...they had Earth Balance buy one get one free...so of course I took advantage of that...I'll just put them in the freezer until I need them...
...and I'd been looking for some organic rye flour in all the grocery stores and had been unable to find any...so I was happy to get a bag of that...
...and a couple of new things to try...
...Califia Better Half...and Ripple Protein Milk...I'll let you know how they are...
...and look at that sweet little wooden honee dipper for my Bee Free Honee... ...this sweet card and tea were in the huge packet of mail that got delivered after our vacation...it's from my dear friend Elizabeth...she blogs at Bits of Sunshine...she and I have been internet friends for years...and I've been so blessed by her friendship... ...and we were also greeted with a little bit of storm damage... ...they had some bad storms roll through the area while we were away...and a big limb fell across Jack's fence... ...we moved it...it was heavy...and we think that only the one bar across the top will have to be replaced...and then the rest of the fence should spring back into place...
...happily...it doesn't affect Jack's ability to use the back yard... ...we're actually having a couple of crisp early fall days...so the Pumpkin Pecan tea that Elizabeth sent sounds perfect...and I brewed a cup... ...to have with Brinner...for some reason breakfast for dinner sounded good for our first meal back...I ate half my waffle and most of my grits before I took the photo...
~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!
...PS...I should have said that the Ripple was delicious in the tea...

...Vacation 2018...Day Seven...
...all packed up and ready to go...
...one final walk on the beach...it's funny...this is the only day they had chairs set up for rent...it's early...but the beach is still pretty deserted...even on the weekend...
...heading back across the bridge...
...and off the island...
...we've all been wondering about these seemingly straight pathways...I've googled but not found a good explanation for them...

...W.I.A.Y. and Dinner and a Movie...at the beach...
...not really a proper What I Ate Yesterday post...but a little bit of everything...
...we had pancakes for breakfast...
...a couple of times...
...and scrambled tofu...also a couple of times...we had oatmeal and fruit too...but no photo of that apparently...
...I think this is the only lunch I photographed...(sideways)...and the only lunch we ate out too...a veggie burger with avocado and corn salsa...our sweet server even went back and checked to make sure the veggie burger was vegan...some aren't you know...
...it was delicious...she gave me an extra pickle...and then Scout and the Man both gave me theirs...so FOUR pickles...YUM!
..now for Dinner and Movie... ...grilled tofu a baked potato and salad...we made good use of the grill at the rental cottage...we only ate out the first night we were here...
...and the movie... ...The Blob...
...so there's a really mean story about this movie...when we were little probably 6 and 8...Mom let us stay up late and watch The Blob...it was a really scary movie...but we really wanted to see it...we probably had popcorn and MILK with it...haha...wink-wink...
...Sissie and I shared Jack and Jill bedrooms connected by a bathroom in the middle...so after we went to bed...my big brother had the bright idea that I would roll a lopsided-half deflated ball into sissie's room through the bathroom...(I'm sure it was outside...probably in the sandbox...so I'll also give him credit for bringing it inside as I don't remember doing that)...just giving him credit for the idea...because I'm the one who perpetrated the dishonorable and despicable act...
...needless to say...sissie was terrified...and I think Mom was flabbergasted at my 'evilness' (word?)...and made me sleep with sissie that night...which truth be told...was a comfort to me...as I was pretty scared as well...
...anywhoo...I hope this second viewing of the film together was less traumatic...right Steve?...
...now back to the food...mostly I think I ate snacks... ...accidentally vegan Doritos... ...also accidentally vegan Oreos... ...the dried nooch-y kale I made before we left... ...plain chips and salsa... ...one of our parishioners gave us TWO watermelons to take to the beach...we ate them both...they were delicious... ...sissie picked out this mango sorbet at the grocery store... ...and she also brought fresh mangoes with her...so I sliced one up on top of the sorbet...
...I ate more than this...obvi...but these are all the food photos I have...

...Vacation 2018...Day Six...
...just another gorgeous day...
...there were actually a few people on the beach with us today...
...just a few...
...not too much wind...but a nice breeze...
...and the water was gorgeous...
...sissie took a photo of the Man and I wading into the water...it was like a lake...no rough waves...and the water was as clear as I've seen it on the Atlantic...we did see a small jelly fish but no one got a sting...
...small boat...gorgeous water...
...an Osprey...I think...
...a few more people on the beach...
...this will be our last full day on the beach...heading home tomorrow...

Happy Day...
...my sweet sissie arrived for a little vacation visit last night...
...sissie and hubby on the beach...
...it wasn't as windy today...sissie and the Man chatting at the water's edge...
...our view...
...the water was gorgeous...
...and the beach still mostly deserted...
...I forgot to mention that there were kayaks with the rental cottage...so Scout and I took them out for spin on the Sound side...it was a lot of fun...
