...an Asian Pear...

...another Adventures in Food post...

...we saw these Asian Pears at the grocery...

...and always interested whenever we get anything new and different and vegan at our small town grocery store - of course we bought one...but we don't know what to do with it...just eat it raw?...have you had one before?...

...and today is Cinco de Mayo...do you have any plans to celebrate?...it's not a huge holiday here in the frozen north...and if we had a Mexican restaurant in town we'd go out...but, we're having Tacos for supper (soft ones for Scout's braces)...

We love asian pears! Cut'em up and eat away :) the kids call them apple pears because they are crunchy like an apple, but taste more like a pear.

Asian pears are delicious raw! I like to chill them first, although they're perfectly fine at room temperature. :)

I ate a lot of Asian pears growing up (my best friends were from Vietnam). We always just ate them raw!

p.s. we're making enchiladas and cilantro lime rice for Cinco de Mayo :)

I like to slice them up and add them to a salad.

I love them in a salad sprinkled with walnuts and drizzled with honey. Do vegans eat honey? I really don't know and I have learned a lot from yur blog.
Cinco de Mayo--pinto beans have been cooking all day to make refried beans; salsa is mellowing in the fridge and will be make a batch of tortillas [my first]later on this evening.

I loooove Asian pears! Just eat them raw, but I always prefer to eat pears cut up instead of biting them like an apple, I have no idea why :)

Sometimes I cut them up in a salad with toasted (sometimes with a little sugar) walnuts and this yummy salad dressing http://www.briannassaladdressing.com/flavors/blush-wine.html

Oh and Sophia and I are going out to dinner tonight... to eat Italian. Ooops! She wanted spaghetti and I forgot it was Cinco de Mayo!

The Midwest is awful at international flavor, so our stores label them as "Apple Pears", but they are still twice the price! They are a delicious mix of apple and pear, and I don't peel them or put anything on them. I just slice them up for the girls. I pack apple pears and graham crackers as our after school snacks...total yum.

doesn't juila have a "poached pears" recipe? ....'course, it might be hard to do it with just one pear!

Hi :) It looks like what we call nashi pears. I think they are Yum, a bit more crisp like an apple. Enjoy!

I love asian pears but I love ya pears even more. Ya pears are similar in taste but they are shaped like a pear and the skin is yellow and not as bitter as the asian pear.
