...right after breakfast...we loaded up Jack and went for a hike in the woods...well three separate hikes really...all three to local places we'd never been...
...the weather was gorgeous...as we headed up the ROTC trail at Scout's school...we had read about the dedication of the new trail in the paper but we had not been there...
...there was still a lot of evidence of last year's derecho...
...with broken...
...and downed trees everywhere...
...there were signs that the deer were up earlier than us...
...and Jack was beside himself with happiness...
...he kept pulling against the leash to get to all the new smells...
...the trail winds around the hill up to the water tower...
...and we marveled at all the work that had gone into the new trail...the amount of gravel hauled was just astounding as I'm sure they couldn't get a dump truck up there...
...one thing I love about hiking in the very early spring is that the views are the best of any time of the year...
...the new growth that hasn't yet leafed out to obstruct the view has pushed off all of the old leaves clinging from last fall...
...wait...did you see that little spot of red there...
...a close up of the new growth...
...and spring still proves to be very fickle indeed...after the glorious spring weekend...we woke to a snowy morning again today...
~wishing you a lovely spring day!
happy spring morning to you too!! yep, saw that little splash of red!
ReplyDeletelove, k
Our spring is also proving fickle. Two weeks ago we sat in the sun to drink our tea and now there is a biting north east wind and for much of the country deep snow!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I loved that you got a photo of a cardinal as we don't have those around here.
ReplyDeleteSpring is kind of a tease, isn't it?
