...Over the Weekend...

...first of all...there was no dinner and a movie Friday night because we had a wedding rehearsal and groom's dinner...

...I always try and put people right at ease if they seem worried about not having any vegan food for me...because being vegan is really easy...and I would have been fine with bread and tea...haha...but they actually had lots of vegan food...I asked about the green beans and they were only seasoned with olive oil and spices (which is kindof unusual around here where they usually put some sort of meat or animal fat in them), I also had a plain baked potato with salt and pepper, a huge salad with Italian dressing, and 2 dinner rolls...and sweet tea...so I was rather well fed...and no one had to go to any trouble at all...

...then Saturday there was a beautiful wedding and then a reception...where they had a salsa bar...so again...I was well fed...
...so it seemed like a busy and quick weekend...and the only other thing of note was that the Man and I went out for a late lunch after Church...

...to a little restaurant that's called "Breakfast Time"...but I got a veggie sandwich and fries...it was really yummy...
...oh...there was one other thing...I made Macaroni and Cheeze for dinner...and I found out that it really does matter what type of pasta you use...

...when we were cooking dinner...we had already decided to make vegan mac and cheeze...but when I looked in the cupboard there were no macaroni noodles...but we had a half of a box of ditalini left over from when the Man made that delicious minestrone...and I said that we could use that because it wouldn't make any difference...but it did...

...the mac and cheeze was just a little bit odd...what do you think?...is a noodle a noodle?...or does it matter what shape it's in?...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

  1. It looks like you ate well despite going out and about. I don't think a noodle is a noodle, lol, otherwise we wouldn't have so many shapes, sizes and textures for different dish. But well done for making do. I thought of you when I watched my weekend movie "Red Sparrow" which I missed when it was in theatres I thought it was well done. I also binge watched the rest of Season 1 of Jack Ryan and thoroughly enjoyed it. Too bad I have to wait almost a year for the next season to be ready.

  2. Definitely, the shape of the pasta matters!! Small shells are ok as "elbow" substitutes. But not much else. I made "Mac-n-cheese" one time with small broken bits of spaghetti because that's all I had. It was NOT good - like you said - weird. Just tasted like buttered spaghetti or something. Strange, but I guess we all look for it to taste and feel like the old Kraft cardboard box from our childhood.

    Love, K

  3. Oh yes, definitely, pastas have their own personalities!

  4. We've used a variety of noodles in mac-n-cheese dishes and they do make it different, but I don't usually mind. None have been unsatisfactory to me. Of course, I LOVE noodles and I LOVE "cheese" sauce. Elbow macaroni will always seem the classic though. Shells our are favorites.

And how nice that you ate so well and no one had to be bothered. That is always my preferred outcome in a group setting like that.

  5. It does matter! Macaroni, cheese and tomatoes was my favourite childhood dish. boiled macaroni layered with tinned tomatoes and cheese and baked. Okay with other pasta, only amazing with macaroni!

    1. Hi Maureen,
...I think I've mentioned before that in North Dakota they call your childhood dish "Funeral Hotdish"...and it often has corn added...
