...Wasting Time...

...that's what I did for about an hour on Sunday afternoon...

......You can see that I use a fashionable and extremely technical process of keeping my place in a lace chart...the Post-It Note...

...the trick is - that for this process to work properly - one must move the Post-It Note down a row when one completes the row...

...so you can see where this is going...

...I hadn't moved the Post-It Note before I put the knitting back in the bag after Thursday's Karate class...

...so when I sat down to knit on Sunday...I started with the row that I had just done on Thursday...

...and I knit to the end and it didn't come out right...so I just thought - you know - that I'd miscounted - so I took it all back out and started over...with the same row again...the wrong row...so when I came to the end again...it wasn't right...

...so guess what I did...Yep!...I knitted the same row a third time...and when it came out exactly the same as the previous two times...it dawned on me that maybe it wasn't the right row...

...so what's the most number of times you've re-knit the same row?...um...er...three...

N.B. - this has nothing whatsoever to do with Christabel's pattern which is perfect and I'm loving the pretty lace too...

  1. that looks like it's going fast! I haven't really ventured into the realm of lace knitting yet, largely for the reason you just posted about. i don't think i'd be able to keep my place well. i can't wait to see your sweater when it is finished though! :)

  2. I've done this with complicated lacy pattern - and other patterns as well!

It's looking very nice, looking forward to seeing the finished product. I like the yarn very much.

  3. Very pretty. Sorry you had to re-do the row so often but it will be beautiful when you are done.

  6. Ah well you see this is why I don't knit. I never get beyond ten rows of the simplest pattern without mistakes and dropped stitches etc.

This looks really beautiful though so it seems the extra work was worthwhile.

  9. Grrr! You must be really consistent at moving that post-it note most of the time, to miss the cause of your troubles this time. ;)

    That top is looking gorgeous!

Oh, uh, I have knit the same few rows more than I can count when I wasn't supposed to. Thank goodness for unwaxed dental floss on the more complicated and longer knits! Too bad it doesn't work for cross-stitch, too.

  11. Um, I can answer this question. When I make a mistake knitting, I say a bad word and then I put all knitting away for about 12 years. Sadly, I'm not even kidding.

  12. I can totally relate. Actually earlier this week I have taken out 6 rows of knitting twice on a sweater I am making, but for 2 different mistakes. It doesn't really work for lace, but if I make a mistake one row down, I will try and correct the mistake when I knit back again by just undoing the wrong stitches as I get to them, instead of redoing the whole thing.
