...3.7...Over the Weekend...

...the InstaCart pickup was first on the agenda this week...
...and there were no mishaps this week...we got some very green bananas...
...and we had watched a sort of short documentary one evening as we ventured into the rabbit-hole that is YouTube...on the Mt. Olive pickle factory here in North Carolina (at least I'm pretty sure that's the one we watched...without rewatching it that is...haha)...and they were making a batch of "Sour Pickles"...

...and we were both like...what is a Sour Pickle...having never seen or heard that term before...even though we are NC natives...so the Mt. Olive brand was not available to put in the cart...but the Food Lion version of the same...was...

...we tried one then and there...and MAN! are they sour...I'll have to tell Our Airman about them as he loves all things super sour...haha...I don't think he's a fan of pickles in general...these would be good on a vegan charcuterie tray though...as they'd really give you a palate cleanser...

...have you ever had a "Sour Pickle"?...
...trying a new Nestle chocolate that is accidentally vegan...
...this pretty tin arrived from Amazon...the Man had ordered it for a recipe he wants to make...hey Fam!...remember when I used to collect tins to put in the soffit rail above my cabinets...and the collection got out of hand...haha...this one is really pretty though...
...so I made a cup of tea...of course...
...they were nicely and safely packaged...
...and they are so delicious...they may not last until the Man is ready for the recipe...seriously I could eat an entire sleeve at once...I love gingerbread though...do you?...

...a long time ago...with a much smaller Airman...we made a bunch of Moravian Spice Cookies...and these are a lot like those...
...this was the weekend to catch up on all of my first of the month tasks...
...I cleaned the aquarium...the Berkey...changed the air filter...and the front porch pillow (to the March one...of course)...and gave Jack his heartworm chewie...so...we're all caught up for another month...
...then after my two squash success...HA!... with the Butternuts I planted last year...I planted all of the seeds that I'd saved after I ate most of them...this is how I roast them...about a dozen...so hopefully I'll have a lot more Butternut Squash this year...they were Waltham (I think) so they were open pollinated and should work from saved seeds...we'll see...I should be able to plant them outside in about 8 weeks...this year is flying by again...
...I cooked an entire box of that Bulghur wheat the Man bought at the beginning of the pandemic...and then decided that he didn't like it...in this pot I added Washington broth...and I'll use it as a sort of 'crumble' in spaghetti sauce and chili...and sloppy joe...I think I'll make a batch of funeral hot dish as well...or maybe one pan dandy...and get it used up before it goes out of date...I also made a pot plain to have as a hot breakfast cereal or a sweet snack with brown sugar and cinnamon...it's like Wheat Hearts...but with more texture...
...and then...Sunday after church...we got Mexican takeout again...
...it was yummy...of course...and the Man had gotten flour tortillas with his meal...and he doesn't eat those...so I used a couple to make a quick vegan quesadilla...

~Wishing you a lovely start to your week!

  1. Glad Food Lion is on their toes this week! I love bulgur wheat. I remember making a salad with it using chopped broccoli, green onions and a vinaigrette dressing. Can't believe it's close to "planting time" already! Love, K

  2. Now I want to try a sour pickle! Like your Airman, I'm a big fan of all things sour! I've never heard of it before.
