The Machine Stops

I just read The Machine Stops by E. M. Forster - this short story was completely unknown to me - even though I've read A Passage to India, A Room with a View, Howard's End, and Where Angels Fear to Tread...

...I am not a huge Sci-Fi fan and could hardly believe that the story was written by the same E.M. Forster that I knew through his other works - but I must agree with the notes on the online version that all of us who use the internet should read it...perhaps the most amazing thing about the story is that it was written in 1909 - amazing that he could have any idea of IM and blue screen images without the 'nuance of feeling'...and it's intrusion into and comsumption of our lives...

...there's a lot of 'religion' in the story too - so read it (it's short) and let me know what you think...
