Scout Camp - 2012

...early Sunday morning...Scout and all his Scout buddies headed to Scout camp...32 of them and a handful of dads...different from our ND troop...but sort of the same...

...the signs were different...of course...

...but the atmosphere was the same...

...our first trip to Dilley's Mill BSA...

...past the map at the entrance...

...these posts were the same...does every Scout camp have them...I wonder...you can see the Wilderness ones here...

...a bit of encouragement...

...the Council entrance...

...the picturesque Dining Hall...

...Lake Sam Hill...

...it's a beauty...

...on the Waterfront...

...the swimmer's tags...I have Scout's from each year at camp in his scrapbook...this year's too...

...from the dam...

...through the trees...

...the Chapel...

...built in 1961...a long time ago...

...I still smile every time I see Troop 31...amazing that we'd wind up in a troop with the same numbers isn't it?...

...back to camp...

...lining up for evening flag at the campsite...

...corporate evening flag ceremony...

...the Archery and Tomahawk areas...

...through the Chapel...

...Sewell Camp...

...my tent...

...behind my tent...

...heading out for Campfire...

...gathering spot on the hill...

...an old totem...

...the crowd gathers...

...and heads towards the Council Campfire...

...the trail meanders along the lakeside under the trees...

...a blazing fire is already going as we arrive...there was a burning ban in the campsites...so this is the only fire of the week...

...our Troop's skit...my camera was having a hard time with the humidity...

...the campfire ended with a solemn ceremony for the newly called out Order of the Arrow candidates...

...and torches were lit to drumbeats across the lake...it really was beautiful...

...back to our campsite...notice the cold firering...

...Scout packs up his tent getting ready to leave...

...another Troop 31 smile...

...goodbye Camp Sewell and Dilly's Mill...

...until next year...

  2. I'm sure he'll have lots of great memories from his time with his new troop. It is funny that he got into the same number.
