...Super Simple One Hour Baby Hat...Free Pattern...

...with the approaching opening of the new Pregnancy Center...I remembered that I had almost three skeins of this donated Red Heart Baby Yarn in my stash...moved here from North Dakota...

...and I thought it would be perfect for a few baby hats for the Center's Baby Room - that's where new Moms can come and pick out things for their babies - clothes/diapers/tubs...etc. ...

...I love the old price tags on vintage yarn...don't you?...now that everything is scanned you rarely see price tags anymore...

...now on to the pattern...first cast on 40 - 50 - or 60 stitches - depending on how big you want the hat to be...baby's heads come in all sizes...

NB...no...your eyes are right...those needles are two different sizes...I used size 10 US needles just for the cast on...I'm taking advantage of the 'curl' of stockinette stitch...so the first row needs to be stretchy...for the rest I used size 6 US needles...

...just knit in stockinette stitch...knit one row - purl one row for 40 - 45 - 50 rows...then DON'T cast off...take a tapestry needle and thread the tail of yarn...then just slip each stitch off the needle onto the thread...

...just like you were keeping live stitches to add on later...

...but we're done...just gather all the stitches tightly into a cute little ring...take a stitch into the next stitch and make a knot...

...then make a quick seam up the back...using the tail from your cast-on...

...when you get to the top...you'll have two tail ends of thread...one from the cast on and one from the cast off...

...now just take a crochet hook and chain stitch a little loop...and tie it back to the top...and you're done...or...put a pompom...or a crocheted flower...or any other embellishment you want...

...and there you have it...a sweet little baby hat in under an hour...

...my times...cast-on - 2 minutes...knit each row for 45 rows...about 1 minute per row...45 minutes...take stitches off and gather...2 minutes...back seam...2 minutes...crocheted loop and knot...2 minutes...

...I'm sure you have some leftover yarn that would be perfect for this 'feel good' little project...who doesn't love knitting for a baby...you may even have a pregnancy center or hospital close by that you can donate some to...

...I hope so...and I hope you have a lovely day!

Can you truly make this in an hour? I don't believe I will ever get that fast...

    Sweet baby hat.

This is so sweet. I'll have to keep this pattern in mind and make some to donate. Thanks for sharing.
