...7.10...Dinner and NO Movie...

...I'm sorry to say that I don't even have one photo of the evening...and we had such a good time...oh well...I guess I was just too caught up in the moment to take any photos...

...I'm at Mom's for the annual family reunion...and I'll tell you all about that later...but last night we met my Uncle, his wife and his commanding officer for dinner at the little family restaurant at the crossroads...

...you see my uncle was a medic in the Navy and then in the reserves for all the years after that...he met and married his wife there...on board with no family present on January 1st...it was such a sweet story...

...another story he told was that Daddy was the reason he joined the Navy...my Dad met my Mom while he was on leave from the Navy and my uncle just thought 'that was the life'...traveling the world...I think he said he was fifteen while Daddy was 'courting' Mom...his older sister...so as soon as he graduated he joined the Navy...

...and he told lots of other stories that just kept everyone at the table enthralled as we waited and waited and waited...because the employment crisis for restaurants is real...in this small town restaurant with about 30 tables of clientelle they had only 2 servers for the entire restaurant...so it's a good thing that we had some entertainment...

...and then...there was his commanding officer...with whom he stays when he's home for a visit...how special is that...she's a 94 year old Navy nurse who was on a navy hospital ship during the Vietnam War...and still volunteers at the VA hospital...it was fascinating to hear her speak...

...so...for dinner...I finally did get my Greek salad with no cheese...but I did not get any dressing...bread sticks or water...it was still a good salad and a good dinner with family and friends...

...what have you been watching lately?...

~Have a lovely weekend!...

  1. Sounds like you had a great time visiting. As for staff shortage we are having the same issue here. Some business owners complain no one wants to work because they are getting paid. The amount some people who are affected by Covid get each month is only supposed to be paid mainly if they cannot work or have health issues but no one checks that carefully I guess and not everyone is honest. But let's say I think most people would have concerns about too much public interaction. I think by November the benefits will stop being paid and people will need to get back to paid labour. I also heard that salaries have gone up. That's a good thing.

  2. Very cool--the stories, I mean! I love it when families sit around and tell their own histories like that!
