...I'm not starting with a breakfast post...because I'm pretty sure we didn't eat any...in fact we ate very little...it was that kind of a bug...oh well...it doesn't last long and we were soon feeling so much better...but it definitely threw us off of our routine...and I didn't go shopping until late Sunday...
...we did very little on Saturday...but Sunday afternoon I was feeling well enough to use up the farmer's market cabbage and make a new batch of sauerkraut...
...I ususally try to make a new jar of sauerkraut when the old one gets about half empty...
...and I strain out a little bit of the liquid and use it as a 'starter' of sorts for the new batch...it's definitely not necessary though....
...and I sterilize a half gallon jar by putting a half-cup or so of water in it...and laying it on it's side in the microwave and boiling the water for a few minutes in there...
...then I cut up the cabbage...
...and weigh it...I know that I need about 3 lbs to fill up the 1/2 gallon jar...
...and that whole cabbage wasn't quite enough...so I got an older cabbage out of the fridge...just one I'd gotten at the grocery store...
...and used some of it to make up the difference...
...it doesn't have to be this exact...haha...
...and then I just used by 40-ish year old Emmie food processor with the epoxied blade to chop it all up...
...and massaged in the three teaspoons of salt...that's all there is to it...3 lbs. of cabbage...and 3 tsp. of salt...
...and then I pack it into the jar with the special lid...and sit it on the counter for a couple of weeks...
...and late Sunday afternoon is a pretty good time to buy groceries...we didn't need much...they didn't have the Man's favorite unsweetened Silk soymilk for some reason...so I got the Westsoy one...and the Man had said that he preferred the whole cashews to the pieces one...they're about twice as expensive so I got both to see if it's really that important...

I really must try making the sauerkraut some day. But first I need to find the covers and some weights.
