Mrs. Fix-It - the Sequel

Well I can hardly fuss at the boys who broke my planter after I broke my drying rack by folding too many clothes on top of it - it was just like the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back (I know poor camel) - but I was using the rack like a table to stack my laundry on as I folded it - not the intended use of the drying rack at all - but I had been successfully using it as such for many a year...

...so I'm folding away and not even gently stacking the towels on top of the rack as I take them out of the dryer - when I hear a crack and the whole assembly tumbles to the floor...

...the surprising thing is that I would have thought it would have broken at the top where I was stacking the towels - but it didn't - it was the bottom two rungs that broke...

So I surveyed the damage and contemplated buying new dowel rods to replace the broken ones - (you see buying a new rack never crossed my mind) - but I wanted it fixed now - and I didn't want to make a trip to Stuff-Mart - so, I got out some glue and clear packing tape and glued the bottom rod - the one that was just split and then taped it together so it could dry...

...then I got out my handy-dandy cordless drill and drilled some holes in both pieces of the broken dowel rods -

...snapped off a couple of the little bamboo skewers (they're bigger than toothpicks but only about 3 inches long)

...did a dry fit to make sure everything would go back together properly...

...I flipped the whole assembly over and did the same on the other side...

...added some wood glue and pressed everything back together...

...and here she is back at work...

The whole 'fix-it' process took less than 30 minutes and I'm happy to have saved another item from the landfill...

  4. That is great the less waste our environment has to deal with the better.

Most people just throw broken things away because the price to buy a new is often simular to the price to fix. It shameful retailer and manufactures have turned us into a disposalable society.

I am become more and more aware of fixing things too.
