...beware the Ides of March...

...you really don't have to beware the Ides of March...and you know that I'm here to answer all your trivial questions about word origins and other linguistic silliness...when I was teaching Latin - we used to have a little mini celebration on the Ides of March - with some candy or a game...the kids loved it...

The word Ides comes from the Latin word "Idus" which means "half division". It was used mostly in relation to months - not sure I know of another use of the word actually...it indicated - you guessed it - the middle of the month. In the months of March, May, July and October it was the fifteenth, and it was the thirteenth for the rest of the months of the year in the Roman Calendar...

...Pi Day - yesterday - would have been Prid. Id. Mart. or the day before the Ides of March...HA!

...anywhoo...the post is up over at The Vegan Version for the pie...

...normally I would have cute pictures of the pie plated but we have a very sick boy here - his temp is 101.6 and holding...I think he only ate one bite of pie...

...and...in other news...

...this cup is from my honeymoon...so you know how old it is...

...well the other day...as I was pouring tea from my lovely Brown Betty Teapot - the lid fell off (this rarely happens as it has a little catch on it) and chipped my cup - I was quite crestfallen as you can imagine...

...but deciding to make the best of the situation...and avoid any cut or scratched lips...I got out the dremel tool with a grinding tip...and sanded the cup smooth...

...then I switched to a buffing tip and shined that baby up...good as new...almost...it's still a thin spot...oh well...I'll still drink my tea from it every day...

  3. That was a really interesting post. My husband studied Latin and Greek at school and I'm amazed at some of the things he knows about.

Sorry to hear about your poorly boy. I hope he feels better soon.

My dear husband is sick, too...I hope your son is 100% quickly.

You gave me one more reason why I need a dremel tool. You are so smart. :)
