...we started the weekend with a really big breakfast...I scrambled some tofu with some peppers and onions...
...I prefer my scramble with regular white toast...but we had some plain bagels we needed to use up so we each had a half...and a bowl of grits and some sliced tomatoes...
...and then before the weekly shopping trip...we did those first of the month chores around the house...we moved the furniture and cleaned and polished the wood floors...
...and did the same in the kitchen...but we just cleaned the tile...no polish...
...and while the floors were drying we headed out to do the shopping...
...nothing of note...but they (Stuff-Mart) was completely out of the Westsoy organic soymilk that I prefer...oh well...
...and in honor of the 4th...I got the Red White and Blue Popz...it was good...it really did taste like a rocket pop...haha...
...and then Sunday afternoon...because our hibiscus is blooming...
...in the almost 100° heat...
...we headed over to the Botanical Gardens to look at theirs...it wasn't too hot in the shade...oh wait...yes it was...haha...
...a bright pink hibiscus...
...a deep red one...almost like ours...but a slightly different variety...
...a variegated pink/white one...
...and a really pale pink one that's almost white...
...then we were hungry and hot...so we decided to head across the river to a nice cool restaurant...
...it's so much fun to just skim down through the trees...
...a lone and probably very hot kayaker on the river...
...we ordered our food and waited with our buzzer...
...I got the chickpea salad with added falafel...and lemon poppyseed dressing...it was really delicious...a nice cool lunch...
...while we were there we decided to walk across the foot bridge as we'd never done it before...it crosses the railroad line...still in use...we often hear the trains at night especially...it seems so nostalgic and far away when we do...
...and when we got back to our neighborhood...several of the neighbors were out...as (once again) a little fawn had gotten trapped in the protected wetland (aka slough) behind our house...
...he still has his spots (maybe she still has her spots)...and he was pretty frantically running around and around the fence calling for his mom...
...the gates are kept locked and no one in the neighborhood has a key...and it's managed by the county (I think)...
...so I rode my bike around to the other side and propped up a section of the fence with a scrap of wood...and the little guy squeezed under and away...a happy outcome...
