The Fourth was such a full day...

We got up early and headed for the parade float - since I knew we wouldn't be watching the parade I snapped a few photos as we passed some of the floats waiting in line for the parade to start.
I was sorry that we wouldn't see the Budweiser Clydesdales in action - but here they are being harnessed...
This is a very detailed replica of the local Catholic Church...
A pumper from 1883...
Because of the Man's work - we are on quite familiar terms with the local funeral home. The 'undertaker' dressed in black with a tophat drove this tiny hearse - it was so funny...
I think I've posted a picture of this stave church model before - this year they were right behind us in the lineup and because of our really loud beach music - they asked a couple of other floats to go in front of them - so their Norwegian polka music wouldn't be drowned out by the Beach Boys...
The Committee Chair and I sat on our bums in the sand on the back of the float and tossed out beach balls and leis - it was pretty uncomfortable - mainly because what passes for 'sand' up here is really dirt - and this dirt had rocks in it too...
A side view of our float filled with cub scouts...
At the end of the parade we saw them unharnessing the horses...
Then we headed home to finish preparations for our company in the afternoon. I made a Red, White and Blue fruit salad - the insides of the strawberries give it a little bit of white - hehe...
I also made my simple golden layer cake - but as a sheet cake this time and I added some lemon flavoring too and decorated it like a flag with strawberries and blueberries - it was pretty and oh so good...

The boys had a balloon fight...
I hope the smoke bombs don't get wet - it looks like there's a small hoard of each...
Then they ran through the sprinkler for a while...
Then they played a game where one boy stomped the rocket launcher thingy and another boy tried to hit it with the football and a third boy caught the football - pretty fun...
While they were drying off we asked them to shuck the corn - they did a super job - and corn tastes so much better when you've shucked it yourself...
There was a lot of corn - we had 18 guests plus the three of us...
Then we had some rocket shooting fun...and started a small fire in the field - it's been very dry - the boys carried water out and made sure it was completely out - then we didn't shoot any more rockets...
well, except these tiny little bottle rockets - so the boys could practice their pyro skills...
Later in the afternoon we fired off a bunch of parachutes - This is the man-cub with some of his booty...
One of the parachutes streaking through the sky...
More parachute booty...
About 10:30 the fireworks could start in earnest - as it was finally dark enough...
They were very pretty...
Then a bunch of tired sleepy folk went home...

  1. That church model is so pretty - and I'm sure the polka music made it even better! What a great idea!
