Tomato Update

...Just a quick update on the tomatoes...

...theyr'e doing nicely (for ND) - I keep saying that I'm going to make some fried green tomatoes (love those) and the Man keeps telling me to wait until they ripen - that I should only make fried green tomatoes in September right before the frost - at this rate we may only get green tomatoes - Ha!...

...the little row of beets in front of the tomatoes is doing nicely too...

  1. My tomatoes came to nothing! Then, I noticed in one of the veg beds a host of baby tomato plants - very sturdy and healthy.

They must have come from the compost where remains of imported, delicate tomatoes were chucked!

My lovely Aunty Margaret lived on a large water board estate where there was a large cess pit. One year she and my cousin went and picked pounds of green tomatoes and made chutney.

    Quite a different source!

My tomatoes hate me. We had the worst spring and then we have only had a nice summer for the past month. I do see a few flowers so maybe I will have a late harvest? Here's hoping. I love tomatoes.

  8. I think I'll need it to stay sunny until Xmas to see a watermelon. It's 65 degrees this morning (it will be 85 by noon)...so it doesn't bode well for my melon crop!

  9. Mine are just now turning red. I was beginning to wonder if they'd ever cross over!
