...SUCCESS!!! I did manage to get the entire quilt top done in an hour by sewing the blocks into a strip and then sewing the strips together - easy...peasy...
...first, I'll answer some questions about yesterday's post...
Our Quilting Process
At our Church...
- we gather our donated material - we have a 'quilting closet' and the material is stored in there...
- cut the material into the desired squares - options are listed at the LWR site -
(12 - 21") - (35 - 12 1/2") - (48 - 11") - but I've also done big stripes - coin quilts and odd shapes sewn together to make a 60 x 80 inch quilt top...
- then we gather monthly at the Church with our completed tops to tie them...
- we lay a twin sized sheet on two fellowship hall tables pushed together - then a layer of batting and then the pieced quilt top...
- so these are all tied quilts - we just use yarn and a darning needle and make a knot at each squares intersection - all the while chatting and planning - it's community and it's fun!
- after the quilt is tied each person takes theirs back home to stitch the edge binding on the machine - we just bring the edges of the twin sheet to the front over the quilt top and top-stitch in place...
- then next May - we'll bring all of our quilts back to the Church where they'll be blessed and then boxed up and sent on their way...
...and that's how we do it...
...remember I said there was enough white and purple material to make 3 quilt tops...
#2...
#3...
...all of the white material was not exactly the same - most of it was this waffle weave - aren't all of the retro polyester designs FUN!?
...so I laid it out in a pleasing pattern...with swirls...
...and zig-zags...
...now I've got two more quilt tops stacked and ready to go - I may get one done tomorrow - today I'm running errands during lunch - then Saturday is packed with 'Homecoming' stuff - Scout's first marching band parade appearance - he's so excited - and then Sunday Scout will be participating in another Eagle Scout ceremony...

Well - that quilt top turned out really great! And I'm glad you've got enough material to do two more. And I like the differences in the white blocks - it makes the quilt even that much more unique. Good job, ma'am! I've gotta learn to do that knot again sometime. I did that a little when I took a quilting class when I lived in Bismarck, but that was back in 1986, I think - so long, long ago! Take care, and good luck with your errands today. From central KY.
