
...first of all I dug a smiley face into the ground (quite by accident) but Scout commented on it and we thought maybe the tree will be happier for it...

It's an Amur Maple (Acer ginnala) - it's not a species I was familiar with - but it's supposed to be tolerant of the very alkaline soil we have here.

...we'll have to decide if we want to prune it into a single tree stem or let it keep all it's branches...

...already the little goldfinches love the new tree - I hope some will call it home...

Hard work, but worth it!
I just love planting trees. When we visit places we used to live we always have to check on the progress of the trees we planted while living there.
I think all maples are pretty. The smiley face was funny, I just dig a hole and am never that creative.
Nice to see your pretty weather and of course the new tree. Hope you had a good 4th holiday. E
