...it could be worse...it could be raining...

...I love this quote from Young Frankenstein (one of my favorite movies of all time...if you've not seen it you really should - it's hilarious)...

...and right now it sort of applies to us...

...in addition to the ordeal over the weekend...

...we've had to replace the furnace...the fan/blower stopped working the other day...after several days on not using it all because the weather was perfect...we had some rainy chilly weather and we turned the heat back on...and it just didn't work...we were fine without it - luckily it's spring...and it wasn't that cold...but the unit was so old that we decided to just replace it with a more efficient model instead of just replacing the fan...

...so the furnace experts came last week to install the new furnace...and they're in our laundry/utility room where the furnace resides...and guess what...

...it could be worse...it could be raining...or...

...the sewer could back up into the room where they're working - UGHHH! - What a mess...so I got that cleaned up (somewhat) - (and lucky for you there are no photos)...and they were able to complete the installation...

...some super nice City Sanitation workers came right away - seriously - like in 15 minutes they were there - and put their camera down the drain...and found that it is blocked by roots...when he found out we had recently bought the house, he complained that the sewer drains are not included in the home inspection (which of course we'd had done)...and we found out that drains outside the house are also not covered by our home warranty...

...so we called a super nice plumber...and he came right away too...and quoted the job...but because of all the rain we've been having...they've just now been able to fix the drain...

...didn't they do an amazing job...we've now got two new 'cleanouts'...and no more clay pipes that roots can get into...so we should be good for our lifetimes anyway...

...I'm just keeping in real around here...things are not always perfect...or perfectly timed...and these 'setbacks' just mean that some of our other projects will have to be on hold for a while...

...but luckily I had already bought the travertine tiles for the foyer...ooops...I know one is already broken...hoping to salvage at least a half piece that we can use somewhere in the layout...

...so...I guess the point of all this is...be thankful for what's right...and don't focus on what's wrong...because probably...'it could be worse'...

...Have a lovely day!...

  1. Isn't it just the way - not covered! What a nuisance though to have the furnace pack up. Glad to hear the sewer problem is behind you.

However, we have had so much rain, heavy rain, light rain and drizzle. You name it, when it comes to rain we've had it!

  2. Yes, sometimes when we're in the midst of a mess, we really need to do some "self talking" and make sure we realize, it could be worse. Nonetheless it can be frustrating as you go through it, esp. so hot on the heels of your recent medical ordeal. But life is precious, isn't it, and made of ups and downs. Blessings to you.

  3. I love that movie and that saying! Yes, it could be worse and that is a great attitude to live by. Glad everything is now fixed. And I love your new tile!

  4. Oh, I can feel your pain for sure. We've been doing some house maintenance recently too - one thing does lead to another. I keep telling myself that at least we won't have to fix or replace xyz for 15-20 years or more now...but still.

  5. I loved Marty Feldman, saw him once in Muswell Hill. He was driving his Rolls Royce and smiling that smile of his.

  6. Wow, I am so impressed and inspired by your calmness in all of this. I probably would have imploded, not that implosion would have helped anything. You are right; it could be worse. Glad all is well now.
