Monarch

...remember when we spent that day at the lake...

...and we brought home a caterpillar...

...well Scout had been foraging for milkweed every day and making sure he had fresh food and water in his little cage...and guess what...he turned into a butterfly...

...we waited just a little while to make sure his wings were dry...

...and then Scout took him outside and let him go...

...he flew away so quickly that I barely managed to get a picture...

...here he is resting for a bit...before he starts his long flight south...

...bon voyage...

  1. You sound like you're running a regular zoo over there! It looks like it's been a great summer for Scout.

  2. That's amazing that they will mature even in captivity. How cool that you got to see that. MOM

  6. I remember a cartoon from many years ago, two caterpillars were looking up at a butterfly which was flying above them. One caterpillar says to the other caterpillar - you would never get me up in one of those!

Congratulations to Scout on another successful wildlife project. Has he read 'My Familly and Other Animals' by Gerald Durrell?
