...4.1...Dinner and a Movie...and BEES...

...so...last night before our movie...we were visited by a SWARM of BEES...it was pretty amazing...
...while I was out riding my bike...the Man called me...I always have my phone with me...and he said not to come back up the sidewalk to the house like I usually do...as there was a huge swarm of bees there...click on the photo and zoom in...every one of those specks is a bee...and there are hundreds and hundreds of them...you could hear the buzzing a long way off...
...we watched them from inside behind the screened window...it was pretty amazing to watch...they finally settled down on this bush before it got very dark...if you click on that one you can see the huge ball of bees clinging there to the bush...the queen is somewhere in the middle...

...and then we closed the window and had dinner...haha...
...we had a bag of fresh Brussels sprouts that needed to be used up...and the Man found this recipe for roasted Brussels...it's just garlic and olive oil and vegan parmesan...pretty delicious...and I could have snacked on them and eaten them all up before we ever sat down to dinner...
...and we had them with baked tofu...and almost the last of our Okinawan purple sweet potatoes...we got to try and grow some of these...they're so expensive to buy...and we've only got two left...

...so then...kind of anti-climatic after the bee-buzz...we started watching a mini-series about Warren Jeffs...Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey...it's a documentary about the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints...and the scandal of underage marriage and childbirth...I remember it being in the news back in the 2000's when we first moved to North Dakota...it's pretty disturbing...not sure we'll watch the rest of the series...

...so then bright and early this morning...the beekeepers arrived...the Man had called a nice local couple from the list the county has of voluteers that will come and help you deal with a swarm like this...obviously the bees can't take up residence on our front sidewalk...
...they were so nice...they said it would be ok for me to take photos...it was fascinating to watch them work...they unpacked a new hive...so the bees will have a nice new home...
...and then with gloved hands he just started gently scooping up handfuls of bees and shaking them off into the hive...
...he really needed to get to the queen...but she was way down in the bush...completely surrounded by thousands of bees...
...and then it started raining...so I got out the Man's big golf umbrella...and they continued working...it took them over an hour to get all of the bees...or most all of them...some of the bees were still confused by the queens pheromones in the bush and kept trying to go back there...
...but finally they got them all into the hive...and buttoned up the top...
...they will leave it here all day and come back at dusk and get it to give any stragglers time to get into the new house...

...wasn't that exciting...

~Have a lovely weekend...
