...Bathroom Update...baseboards...

...right after the floor is sealed it's time for the baseboards...
...we got real wood baseboards already primed white...so that much was already done...set up my mitre box in the kitchen (lovely floor right?)...and made the cuts...measure twice...cut once...
...then I cut some 45° angles and then coped them for the corners...
...and finished the coped edge with a carving knife...
...after a final dry fit I painted the pieces with the same SW Snowbound that I used on the door trim...it's actually kinda handy to have the floor uncovered in the kitchen as it gives us a nice big open space in the heated inside of the house that we don't mind messing up a bit...
...when that was dry...I drilled some holes for the finish nails...just about nothing could be worse at this point than splitting the wood trying to nail it up...
...and there you have it another small piece of the picture...

...W.I.P. Wednesday...F.O.

...Scout's snowboarding hat is complete...
...I used the invisible duplicate stitch seam again to stitch it up...
...starting with the working yarn to the left stitch up through the last loop on the right then bring the yarn across the empty space and stitch down through the last loop on the left...then bring the yarn under the base stitch and back up through the hole...creating a duplicate knit stitch...then just start over from there...come up through the next stitch up on the right...etc...

...I'm going to make a video soon of the duplicate stitch seam...it's really neat...
...so then you'll have a grey duplicate stitch seam going up the center back...
...and we need to add the blue garter stitch to the seam...so turn the hat upside down...
...and just do an upside down duplicate stitch on the rows that have the blue stripe...
...do a single crochet border around the entire bottom of the hat...
...when you reach the bottom of each earflap add three double lengths of grey yarn and braid them for about 12 inches to form the ties...
...then stitch in a polar fleece lining by hand...polar fleece is pretty stretchy...I used a fleece hat from the dollar store as my liner...so it was super easy...

...I promise there will be a pattern soon (I took notes as I went along)...as soon as the bathroom is finished...HA!...

...Bathroom Update...sealing the tile...

...and right after the grout...comes the sealer...again...about 24 hours later...
...definitely an easy project...just pour a little sealer on the tile...
...spread it evenly with a rag...
...and you're done...it makes the tile a little bit darker...so you'll want to consider that when choosing your tile...quartz tile is so hard that it doesn't actually require a sealer...but the grout needs it and I think it makes the tile look prettier...I guess you could just sort of paint the sealant on the grout if you didn't want to put it over your tile...
...and there you have it another small part of the Big Project in the littlest room is complete...

...Bathroom Update...grouting the tile...

...you know what comes after setting the tile...well, about 24 hours after anyway...
...of course...you're right...it's grouting the tile...
...I do love this quartz tile...but I was definitely not a fan of the grout removal...I had to use a toothbrush to scrub it off of each tile...quartz is not at all porous...but just the texture holds on to the excess grout...so what I thought was going to take about 2 hours...ended up taking about 6...
...all done now...I know it's very dark...we've removed the light fixture and have only temporary light in here right now (no windows either)...I'll get some better photos once the Man installs the new light fixture...

...almost done...and I'm really thankful that we didn't use this tile in the larger bathroom as we originally planned...that would have been a lot more work...funny how things work out like that sometimes isn't it?...

...Bathroom update...setting the tile...

...well...the day had finally arrived for setting the beautiful quartz tile...
...we begin by sort of roughly laying out all the tiles...
...and we needed to trim off the bottom of the door jamb so that the tile would be able to slide underneath...we just used our box saw...but they make a special little offset saw for this purpose...but we don't have one...
...we just popped the extra little piece of wood out...
...and then the tile can slide right under...
...when I started placing the spacers...I noticed that one of our prettiest tiles was not square...so I'm not going to use him in the center of the floor...he'll have to go over to the edge so that his crooked side can be covered up with the baseboard...
...when I got to the toilet ring...I had to pack up and go to the tile store to have the stones cut before I could continue placing the tile...
...so this floor involved only two trips to the tile store...once for the tiles around the toilet and again for the ones along the side walls...we decided not to start in the center (as recommended)...we would have in a larger room...but this room is so small that we didn't want to have small cut tiles on both side walls...now everything is layed out...
...and now it's all set in mortar...I realize there's very little difference in the two pictures...but there is a lot of work in between...

Do you have a big project planned for the weekend?

...bathroom ceiling...

...I know this is backwards...and that it caused us more work...but it moose be done...(that's a North Dakota saying in case you didn't know...)
...the ceiling looked kinda drab against our newly painted walls...so we gave it a quick coat of the same white we used on the trim...(Sherwin Williams Snowbound)...
...and that of course caused us to have to repaint the tops of the walls because I wanted to make sure that I got the pretty new white all the way into the corners...

...of course the proper order for these things would be ceiling first...then walls...

...Bathroom Paint...

...now back to our regularly scheduled remodeling project...
...after we got the walls sanded and the floor level...we went over the walls with a damp cloth...
...it was time to paint...so we started with the trim...being very careful not to get any paint on the oak trim that will face the hallway...the Man and I both grew up in 60's houses with wooden doors like these...and I don't think that any of the doors in either home were painted...
...so painting the inside of this door white is a novelty for us...there wasn't much trim...just around the door...we'll do the wooden baseboards later...
...then we did the cut in work...painting around the sink and the newly painted trim...in such a small room there was not a lot of that either...
...then just a quick job with the roller...and instead of cleaning everything I wrapped the roller and brushes in plastic and put them in a zip-lock bag in the freezer...as we'll be doing a 2nd coat tomorrow...
...all done...the colour is a very pale green Sherwin Williams 'Sprout'...
...and the trim too...it actually took a lot more paint to cover the oak than I would have thought...this is 4 coats of white over varnished oak...

...do you have painted doors?...

W.I.P. Wednesday

...we interrupt this bathroom remodel to bring you W.I.P. Wednesday...
...progress on Scout's hat...
...I have seriously frogged this hat about 5 times...but I have been writing everything down...so I'll have a pattern for you soon...
...it's kindof a copy of one we saw while we were at Wisp...with earflaps and braided ties...but without the $80 price tag...

...I used 2 strands of Caron Eco for the grey and 2 stands of some unidentifiable Royal Blue from the stash for the blue...and size 13 needles...so it's a pretty quick knit...

...bathroom update...floor prep...

...now on to the floor...

...since we're going to use the quartz tile that we originally chose to go in the green bathroom...we needed to prepare the floor for tile...
...this is what was under the carpet...
...we needed to seal that sticky mess up...so we mixed up some leveling compound...
...and troweled it on...
...now it's all sealed up...and level...
...it's fun to see the colour change as it dries...
...all done and ready for the tile...

...wait...I'll definitely paint the walls first...don't want any splatters of paint to clean up on the tile...
